Boost Gauges

On my Import ZX My boost gauge is –7 to +7 mmHG or something.

What is this in PSI and are the standard gauges any good?

Thanks Chaps

Richie…..

P.S. does the pic below show?

roughly -14 to 14psi..

And no.. they are generally pants, innacurate, hard to read, and not even a reliable indicator of being in safety boost or not..

And no.. it doesn't..

Richie,

the readings (really -700 and +700) correspond to -14 to +14 psi on UK spec cars. the mmHG is millimeters of Mercury, i.e. the height of a mercury column held in a vacuum that the pressure will support; it's an old unit derived from one of the earlier ways of measuring pressure.

as for the accuracy of the standard gauges; read around these forums and you'll see they're generally regarded as giving an impression only - i.e, shite.
