Today i learnt something new about the 300zx when trying to insure my new import.

UK spec 300zx is insurance group 41

Jap spec 300zx is insurance group 46

Now, it might just be me, but i really cant see why? Why should there be 5 groups difference just because its from another country! Its exactly the same car!! I argued this for about an hour with Adrian flux when they told me the underwriters wouldn't touch me because it was a 'fairlady' import! So i got my quote online instead. it did mean canceling my policy (and losing 6 months no claims) and taking out a new policy, but i saved myself £500 on what they were quoting me on a fully comp policy so it worked out better off in the end. Just annoyed about loosing my last 6 months of no claims, makes a difference when your only 22!

I've now been driving 5 years, no accidents, with only 2 years no claims because of the bulls*** that comes with insurers!

How much!!!!!!!

I really don’t how all you guys put up with all this nonsense from Insurance companies, it would crack me up. Thank god over here no such dramas....

Reading the various threads on this subject though, it is very clear these companies are not consistent with applying their rules and certainly to discriminate because a Zed is Jap is absolutely insane. One can only assume the companies don’t want confirmation that there is no difference in these models, cos obviously it’s potentially less premium for them!

I know about a year ago, JeffTT worked with an insurance company to offer competitive insurance to fellow Zedders, being an expert in the field of Zeds they accepted from him that indeed there were no differences that would effect cost’s of replacement parts and so they agreed not to discriminate.

On top of that I think there was talk of agreed valuations through Zedworld, classic policies and a scheme to help keep Zeds on the road if after an accident the customer was happy to use quality second parts to restore his car, everyone then would be a winner!

Maybe worth chatting to him about it this weekend at the Zedworld bash, cos quite clearly in the world of Zeds at least, customers need affordable, quality insurance with no discrimination between Jap or UK.

Good luck :cool3:
