Air filter setup

Hi all,

Ive got various air filter setups that im not sure would be best to use.

Ive got the twin pop version that came with my Greddy FMIC that sit in the normal location.

And then ive got the Doolz system by Z1 that will also sit in the normal location but both air pipes join compaired to the twin pop

I then went and bought the Doolz extensions that extend the air filters out behind the bumber roughly in the location of the air ducts in my bumper.

I understand extending the pipework isnt a great idea but i think the airflow is greater?

What do you think?

Im going to be using doolz kit with extension pipes on mine however will be using Q45 Mafs which are larger and then 350z Apexi filters on those so airflow should be maximum possible. Just a thought for you

Im going for the Map sensor route so wont be using a Maf are the Greddy airnex made for the 350z?

Jaikai ill will be selling once i know what im going to use so ill keep you posted

Cheers

Im doin the same will be using map sensor with aem ecu however the Q45 Mafs allow for the larger filters so just a case of getting silicone couplings to go from the Mafs to the doolz extension pipes

Ok i see so what air filters will you be using?

Also are you doing the 2.5" pipework and intercooler set up to match?

Ah just had a look again i remember now plans changed slightly it was JWT not Apexi but there seems to be 2 options either this with the Q45 Mafs to make them fir

Or replace most of the extension pipes with these or do away with the extensions all together as this should make up the distance

Im thinking its what is needed to go after big power :)

will be using JWT filters ive already got Greddy FMIC installed with doolz and extensions on at the moment going to play about with it so i can move the filters closer to the front. The apexi ones were just the first idea

I see now :) I was thinking about extending the extension as well so the air filters sit at the openings of my bumper. But i was under the impression that you need more direct air flow rather than extending the pipe work loosing air temps and maybe pressure?? Are you also going for the bigger throttle bodies?

You have the same FMIC but the 2 row by the looks of it :)

i will be using the bigger throttle bodies too way i see it every little helps.i think with the filters sitting at the front in the bumper gaps it will create enough forced air to overcome the piping

Once you go map sensor, you can sell your MAF's and get some cash back.

You fit virtually any air filter you like that will fit, if the filter has a tube for fitting then a simple connector if it is vehicle specific which has a fitting, theres umpteen adapters on ebay to use so it connects to the pipework.

You deffo won't need a vehicle specific like 350z one though.

Oh and if your 2nd link of the duel 350z kit, it has the MAF sensor built into the pipework, so may as well just buy the filters and be cheaper.

Hi smithy the z1 doolz I have hasn't got a maf sensor built in. But I'm just wondering which setup I would gain better results from. Cheers Dan

yep i agree i had a few plans i trialed the filters on there own with the maf adapters are possible and would then work with the Q45 adapters but simply for the fitting not for the use of the mafs.they are all pretty much the same for the G35, 350z and 370z by the looks of things its just a case of finding which method will allow the filters to sit in the correct position

Better results is simple mate, when using a map sensor get rid of any MAFS working or not. Fit big filters where most air hits them and pipe up to them.

When buying a vehicle specific filter, your also paying for it's fitting or design to be fitted to a MAF.

Personally for me 2 universal Apexi's is the job just fitted where you think best for a draw of air.

Would have to look at the sizes however i was using the 350z JWT ones for example as they are larger than the standard fitment on the zed therefore will allow maximum airflow through the filters. Now im sure it is possible to speak to JWT or Apexi and find out what the largest filters they do however as you say anything can be fitted.

I personally would like to ditch the Mafs as they will not be wired up so obsolete however the JWT filters with the venturi do look like a good option and have produced great results on the other nissans hence why i was moving away from using Apexi. :)

I think that gives Dan more choices to think of anyway now

Check out the JWT website mate, see what they have there

I measured the pipework on the greddy today and its just over 3" as well as the air filter adaptor..Compared to the Doolz which is only 2.5" the same as the standard pipework in the engine bay. Now i would of thought the 3" would be alot better advantage over the 2.5"??

Or is it because the Doolz joins in the middle does that throw everything out of the window?
