More help needed, i understand that it is possible to refurbish the adjusters on 300 ZX headlights, ive just tried to re align mine and the rotten things turn but do nothing at all to the headlight beam, can anybody give me a decent procedure on how to Remove the headlights from the car as it seems to be a nightmare job, and where i can buy a decent set of gears to refurb the adjuster units, ( im told Tamiya model gears may work but need a lot more info )

any help very gratefully received

thank you

Neil

deal of the week.... you'll only need two of these packs as they have double the cogs in each...

be careful putting them on as you can break the lights housing....

I guess this cant be achieved with the lights in situ?

This is when I did mine and again a bit of a write up, buy plenty of the gears as they are not much money and there is always someone on here who needs them, I even have some left and am gonna guess at 3 packs without looking.

The only thing I wish I had done whilst the lights were in bits is fit some angel/halo eyes using something like these

Hi,

no mate... no worm gears.... two cogs per adjuster, 45 to 45 degrees makes it a 90 degree transfer....

one of the adjustment screws on the low beam is a direct rod, so no gears at all.

and you also need another set for the high beam..... the second adjuster for the high bean uses lager cogs and they don't seem to break....

so you need 4 cogs per light..... x 2 = 8 cogs... you really need to have a look at the instructions / guides people have provided for you (even though they can be found using the search facility).

that way you wont have to ask as many questions..... :)

Great info, I'm doing a xenon projector retrofit to a spare set of headlights I have and on the first light i opened up all the cogs where split.

But I was thinking of just weld, or glue on a nut to the adjuster rod itself. Opinions?

Would adjust it with a socket and ratchet, or will it not fit?

I'd have a look at the location of your mod before attempting that....

I think you'll find once the lights are back in the car, there is no way in hell to get to the nut you talk about... :)

stick with the tamiya upgrade or get some new/other plastics ones...

Thats what I was worried about.... Since the plastic cogs broke I had to turn the adjuster pins with pliers to remove the projector and reflector , so they don't look to good.

OK... the tamiya cogs go on really tight... so tight in fact that you need to hammer/tap them on... they might still work fine.... (i wouldn't bother with replacement plastic ones)

if the tamiya one's don't work you may have to get a new set of lights.... I'm not sure it's possible to replace the spindle / pin....

so cheapest way first is still to do the metal gears....

yeah I had a look last night, they don't look all to bad. It's not like the teeth have been flattened or anything so i'll try the tamiya cogs first.
