Hi all,

As above i need to get a front bumper resprayed, but it is flexible polyurathane, so what do i need to use to ensure that the paint won't crack and flake?

I have been told to use:

Flexible primer, then normal paint, then flexible lacquer....

Firstly is this all i need? and secondly does anyone know where i can get some of the flexible stuff? I have just had a quick look on ebay and googled it but no joy....

Any ideas or suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

Cheers in advance

Pabs

Never heard off that one put washing up liquid in the water when wet flatting but never in the paint?

I've just asked the guy who did my respray for a price for you, paint and labour. If you are interested PM me. Just a thought, Andy Ish will vouch for his work.

Be very careful with what filler your bodyshop use. The "experts" that I used used normal filler and have caused me problems. Custom Exotics warned me I would have cracking probelms and they were spot on :(

There are special fillers for flexible plastics , ones made by UPOL and it,s called PLAST X , it,s a black flexible filler.

Just found this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Upol-PLASTX-6-Fine-Flexible-Filler-Plastic-600ml-/310206207836?pt=UK_Body_Shop_Supplies_Paint&hash=item4839bb175c

Plastic Padding also make a similar filler.

The paint normally has a plastisicer addative to make it flexible .HTH

Is that good for polyurathane?

Yes bud but like any type of filler it has it,s limit of flex but it,s specially formulated to bond to plastic as long as it prepared right but it,s not as easy as normal filler to rub down .HTH

as far as i know mate u spray on a key to make the paint take to the bumper (its a clear liquid) then u prime it with normal primer and paint it. normal paint is a bit flexible anyway. i might be wrong! but i thought i would try to help

Hiya bud , Just got the skirt and door filler bonded on the N/S today , got a couple of days off this week to try and have a good filling session and get as much done as i can , need to sort out the rear lamp panels and i,ve got another front bumper coming soon , i,ve still got a bit to do but if the weather behaves i should be able to crack on .

I want it done ! , i want to drive it :crying::crying: lol

How did you get on with the NS door filler, it curves out more than the drivers side, Dave said thats how they came when he took off the moulds from the originals.

Ayup Graham , i remember you mentioning this at JAE but to be honest i havn,t noticed a difference on this one but to be fair even if it was slightly different it would be lost under all the filler it takes to blend it in ! lol :whistling::whistling:

plus

250ml of basecoat(about £10 ish)

Job done.

Get it local to you and you wont pay any carriage.

There will be more primer and laquer than you need but its not usually available in smaller quantities at at any better price.

Plastic primer is available in an aerosol if you need it but unless you are stripping ALL the existing paint off I dont think its really neccessary. All IMHO of course

HTH

Hi mate, hows family life treating you? I hope that all is well with you Ellen and the baby. I am over in Ascot on Saturday, so could come and grab it off you then mate. I left the dosh with Andy for you last Saturday (Jaffa said i should leave it with you or Andy, and i assumed he would see you first.

Also as an aside - do you reckon we will be able to modify that bolt on the clutch pipe so that it will be safe to use? Andy reckons you said that the bolt could be shortened? I'm just concerned as it seems liek a pretty important thing to be "bodging" if you know what i mean.
