No wonder the Government are introducing "Austerity Measures."

The replacement for the Nimrod aircraft was canceled last year after being 9.5 years late and £789 million over-budget. I wonder just how much money went into this plane before it was pulled. We now have no replacement for Nimrod MR2s or MR1s which are retiring this year. This country is a frigging joke. Funny how this missed being on the news too.

From Wikipedia:-

The Nimrod MRA4 was intended to replace the capability provided by the MR2. It was essentially a new aircraft, with current-generation Rolls-Royce BR710 turbofan engines, a new larger wing, and fully refurbished fuselage. However the project was subject to delays, cost over-runs, and contract re-negotiations. It was cancelled in 2010 as a result of the Strategic Defence and Security Review at which point it was £789 million over-budget and 114 months (9.5 years) late.

Add to that, that we have just taken our last aircraft carrier out of commission, along with the Harrier, and what sort of defense do we have in this country now?

Our brave men and women fighting in Afghanistan and the likes with sub standard equipment, and the government waste money like it's going out of fashion. We have very little left of a country now.

That's it mate isn't it, I don't know weather you remember the TSR2 aircraft contract (English Electric) that was cancelled years ago, they called it the plane that never flew (other than a few test flights):thumbup1: That was another contract that cost millions and got cancelled, it's a crime.......... I'm giving my age away here....lol.....

I think Brown selling off our gold at a 20 year low price has more to do with it. That 400 tons of gold would now be worth 3 to 4 BILLION pounds more than what he sold it for.

In April I'm back out, shall we say, in the sunny desert wearing camouflage clothing and this aircraft was so important to the work we are doing out there, more so the safety of our troops, myself included. Its a shame that the powers above have put a price on our heads. Maybe they should of thought of the price of war before putting a price on me!!!

I've said this before, but I am telling my two children to get a good education and get off this sinking island......I think it's the best thing anyone can do......

I for one am very proud of our lads and lasses fighting for us, and I'm sure everyone would thank you for what you are doing for us, and wish you all the best, please pass this on to all in you're unit (hope unit is the right term).

May you're tour next April be over quickly and return home the heroes you all are, every one of you should be honoured.

Cheers Buddy

Totally agree. Cant imagine how hard it must be for the troops and the families. Marc almost went into the Navy this time last year, the thought of being apart for one night let alone whole tours of duty is unimaginable - you all deserve to be highly honoured

I appreciate your comments and it's nice to know that at least the public are behind us.

Hopefully home for Christmas, more prezies for the car. Thanks again, Tony.
