Hi Guys

All wiring of new electrical components now complete. just got the main task of installing and wiring the following :-

7" lilliput motorised in dash touchscreen monitor

1.5Ghz carputer

Amp (yet to buy)

I have purchased a complete Autoleads wiring pack. My first task is to get a power feed from the battery to the rear of the car. Wondering is it ok to track the thick (35 mm2) cable under the car, laying it in the brake pipe plastic tray? or should i lay it in the car.

I have purchased a complete car Dynamat pack. Do i apply this before or after cabling?

I was looking at buying a good 5 channel amp like below

http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-alpine-pdx-5_p-23383.htm

Is this a good amp?

Any advice from people who have done any of this, would be greatly appreciated. Saving me making the same errors, or recreating the wheel.

Regards

Kev

if you remove the battery you'll see a hole that goes through to the wheel arch (remove the liner) from there you'll be able to feed it inside to above the passanger side footwell.

I would lay the dynomat first, if you have a problem with a wire, you wont be able to get to it once buried.

When finished go to itunes and download Rain by Madonna. Then play it in your zed.

If it makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck then you have set it up right.

Never found a track that shows off your subs so well.

As my Z is a uk spec, it had the 2 piece stereo. Previously had standard speakers, replaced them with infinity reference speakers, tweeters and cross-overs. Now i am going to upgrade. Would you continue to use the standard car cables for speakers. Or should i replace with upgrade speaker cables? If so do i cut the old ones away? Could someone recommend a good quality cable?

Also when you install dynamat do you only fit to boot? The boot area has openings behind plastic trims are you supposed to cover them over?

Has anyone got any pictures of a Z with Dynamat, sound proof fitted?

Regards

Kev

You could use the existing wire for the speakers, but as youre upgrading, its worth replacing considering the low cost http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Speaker-Cable-Wire-Audio-Surround-Sound-Hi-fi-Car-/180467870838?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item2a04b92c76

Dynamat sheets are normally used behind and around each speaker, to stop vibration caused by the speakers.

Im soundproofing the whole car with this stuff http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/53-ft2-Car-Audio-Sound-Deadening-Proofing-Sheet-NEW-/380308555187?pt=UK_Audio_TV_Electronics_In_Car_Entertainment_GPS_Car_Speakers_PP&hash=item588c2805b3

Do a google on car sound deadening and look at the images, brings up lots of ideas

deffo soundproof first! as said by groover. and make sure your power cables are routed away from your signal cables! where is the carputer going to be mounted and also, what type is it?

The Carputer is VIA EPIA EN15000, which runs at 1.5GHz. I have already mounted it in a standard case. But, as we all know the Z has little room in it. So, as i am a design engineer for a large sheet metal company. Thinking of designing and making a custom case so i can fit it into the side of the boot. Then the DVD drive will eject out of the side of the standard plastic boot trims. then mount the amp in the middle of the boot, like most people do covered in a perspex cover.

So should i route all the cables around the car, and boot, then fit dynamat, then fix cables in place over Dynamat.

As the amp i am looking at is 5 channels was going to only fit one sub. Dont know whether to fit in the middle of the boot, against the back of the car pointing forwards. or fit it in say the L/h side of the boot. Does its position matter. i have heard people say some subs have to be bolted into an enclosure ??

hey there, firstly i would probably go for a micro pc if you can afford the purchase, as it will make your life a lot easier, something like this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/227257

and mount it in the glove or somewhere.

and most deffinately run the cabling, then dynamat (or similar) then fix the cables.

will you be amping your other speakers? if not then a 5 channel amp is more than overkill, if its just the sub, get yourself a decent monoblock amp.

with subs you have to remember theres a lot of physical movement going on when its banging out some 'phat tunes' lol. so the speaker needs to be secured well to its plane or surface. most speakers (subs anyway) are designed to operate in a partially enclosed environment, usually completely sealed either infront or behind the speaker to generate back pressure, without this back pressure most subs sound very flat. so i would really reccomend boxing your sub unless its specfically designed to run free.

theres 3 main types of enclosure you could use (and again different subs will work better under different conditions)

Sealed

Ported

and Bandpass

each will behave and sound differently, i myself prefer the bandpass boxes, where the speaker is tucked away behind some (usually) perspex. it gives a very deep basetone :-)

have a look here for more info and great box calculators

and if you need any more help etc pls feel free to pm me :-)
