Is this not one of the scariest things in life.

I went with the girlfriend for a drive on Saturday to the Trafford centre. I thought a few hours of shopping there was painful enough until she said she wanted to drive home. She is fully insured on the z but thats more to do with knocking the price down for me.

Coming away from there was terrifying, I keep telling her to take it gentle as its got a bit more go than her 1.4 diesel 207. Does she listen, does she heck. First corner she gets too and she puts her foot right down to the floor. I am praying that the back end sits still. Then she comes close to missing the junction which results in a fair few cars beeping us as we try to fit in. Luckily the rest of the journey was a bit easier but didnt stop me from having a few nervous moments when overtaking on the motorway, especially when the saying "i didnt see him there" comes out.

The worst thing is she has to have the z again tomorrow whilst I mot hers

count your self lucky you were there to supervise my sort of mate borrowed mine 2 yrs ago (traffic cop )to take it to a mate to sort my alarm out and informed me that the fastest car gwent police have isn`t as fast as my Z i got car bzck with a wine in gearbox but of course it was fine when he drove it !!arse.

Lol its awful, but it does depend on the driver. I have a couple of mates who are very respectful and I end up telling them to stop being throttle puffs and get on with it. Especially in the M3 as that had such a stiff throttle with all the throttle body linkages that you could mistake half throttle for being full if you wernt used to it.

However I also have a mate who had ago in the M3 and good god I have never been more scared in all my life. Generally because he is such a poor driver, threepenny cornering and poor judgement.. Terrifying. Worst thing was after explaining that Evo's suffer from a low clutch biting point (just how they are!) he stalled it twice. So i suggested moving the seat forwards a bit to help.

So he stops by the side of the road, pops it into first, foot on the clutch and grabs hold of the seat slide handle... You can imagine the seat shot backwards my poor car dropped into first, a little scrabble from the back end and a very undignified stall. Luckily it did stall as of course he wasnt actually in control of the car whilst he was messing about in the back seat! I'm sweating thinking about that 3 mile drive home!

hahaha awesome! how not to drive a car!

I think i'll let me gf drive my zed in the summer - she drove my old mx5 and loved it - commented on how nice it is to have an engine that actually has some power, and how spot on the driving position is compared to her 206!

ive got no concerns about her flooring it - to be honest even im still hesitant to use full boost while the roads are cold and damp - and my zed will be making the equivalent of her full power at something just over idle lol

I have never let anyone other than a Z owner ( or a sports car owner) drive my zeds. Once my old mechanic drove mine without telling me and i never went back there again.

and seriously guys you let your girlfriends drive? i used to have a turkish girlfriend, i let her drive the zed for 5 minutes, she curbed it. almost dumped her. i never again let a girlfriend into the driving seat, its just too risky for the car... oh yeh and the relationship too lol.

I never let anyone drive the Zed unless I iknow they can drive (a Zed!). I can count on one hand how many people had and they're all from this forum (or were!).

Problem I have is when I have mates with nice cars who offer to let me drive their cars - I think I'm a competent driver and will be most respectful with their pride and joy - the worry is that they will want to drive my Zed in return...NO CHANCE!! lol...so I end up turning down their offer to drive their Lambo/Ferrari, etc....balls.

My Missus had a bit of "a moment", I call it a tank slapper, in the z. I did offer to try and teach her how to control powerslides, but she just is not interested, and is now very reluctant to drive it in anything but dry conditions.

This generally suits me, but she has pursuaded me to put it up for sale, and get a car with traction control.

The moral of this story is that a z is very much a personal choice, and therefore not for sharing!

i have only just let my brother drive my z the other day after i have owned it for the last 6 year! probably because when i took it round to his when i test drive it he proceeded to 180 , after i bought it he said "shit im sorry i didnt think you were actually gonna buy it!!........

luckly this time round he was very gentle with my pride and joy.:)

Well I used to let Marc drive my Zed occasionally - he's a much younger, less experienced driver than me! He was more precious about it than I was tho if I am honest so was never an issue. Maybe your women need more practice!

My best mate want to drive my zed when I finished rebuilding it. Told him to fook off!

My dad also wanted a go, so I got him to free wheel it down the drive so I could turn it round. Told him after that that constitutes his go..

the only other person ive let drive my zed since ive owned her is jefftt . i reckon he might just about be experienced enough with a zed .

joking aside its nice to see and hear your car coming down the road . you get to see and hear them in all their glory

lool, for the last 10 years my dad has owned 4 mercs ( and one bmw ) and all of em automatics. One day i scolded him for not leaving enough space for me to park the zed in the drive way, so he says to me 'dont complain, its much easier to handle a zed than a merc' (he knows nothing about cars). Well obviously i smelt blood here , i offered my dad to drive the said and he accepted.

He managed to stall a couple times and drive up to 2nd gear before calling it quits,

hah

I offered to let the missus drive my car back from a blast down some country lanes. Just hop on the motorway and take it easy all the way home - but she declined! She used to love driving my skyline! and yes, she did manage to curb it - we passed a police car (she got nervous) and whilst looking in the mirror managed to ramp the car up the curb at 30mph, fortunately it didn't have low profile tyres on it.

The worst bit was getting her to park it..'if you want to drive it, you have to park it on the drive' I said. So she did, all askew - so I made her do it again. She pulled forward, back and ended up in the same position. So I told her to do it again. She did, only this time she tok the wing mirror off on the gate post  I wouldn't have minded - but it was the one I'd recently replaced after some low life kicked my other one off.. :headvswal

Moral of the story - get out while you can.

I'd still let her drive the Zed mind - its only a car (did I just say that?)

I let my other mate drive my Zed, but I get to drive his M3, Caterham and Skyline GTS - so its only fair really :yinyang:

Its the automotive equivelent of swinging - like watching someone bang your missus:blink:

Generally I won't let anyone else drive my cars....

.....although Julia drove the ZX last year on some quiet country lanes. She did OK but it scared her a bit......

......I offered her the chance to drive my new SLK recently (I thought it's more her size than the ZX) but she flatly refused. I'm sure she'd be OK but I guess she knows what I'd be like if she got even the tiniest scratch on it:w00t:

Shame, as we're both insured on all the cars so she should be comfortable to drive them.

Richard:balloon:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I won't let anyone else drive mine. My brother used to have a Zed, so he has, but the gf knows her limits. It sounds like you need to have words with her if she has put her own life, yours and potentially others at risk and is still prepared to drive it tomorrow. I'd say a flat "NO," but we're all different and I have to respect that.

when i lent it to my mate, first corner in the dry he decided to boot it, and it span out on him, almost hit a lorry, i did tell him to straighten it first before giving it some, the guy still works with me and never asks for another drive again lol.
