heated mirror upgrade

im currently in the process of upgrading jap mirrors to take uk heated glass .

ive put in all the additional cable through the jap motors and fitted the new heated units . my initial intention was to route the new cabling to the rear of the rear window defrost switch and splice in so that they operate with the rear window . my query is , is there a live feed already in the door lume that is activated by the rear window defrost button . ideally this is the best option for connection . alternately does anyone know the colour of the cable feeding the rear heated window and the route it takes to the back from the front . just trying to save a bit of time digging around under the carpet .

cheers

andy

I have an import and almost sure mine are heated...the snow melted off them.

the later ones are heated . early ones need a mod . its quite a simple and worthwhile mod to do . a bit fidly but only about 30 mins per mirror .

The relay is in the drivers footwell, behind the fuseboard. The feed for the rear window defogger is light green, so splice into the feed from the relay (LG) and ground in the door.

cheers graham . that will save a load of time with the test lamp . due to there being a relay for the rear defogger should it be a timed push on the button . i had this on previous cars where the defogger stayed on for 10 mins then cut off . the reason i ask is mine stays on indefinately

The time control unit controls the time its stays on. Over time the TCU tends to lose a few features, due to tracks burnt or dry joints.

Here is a pdf coloured wiring diagram, scroll over to 36 and you can see what the time control unit controls and the wire colours

cheers graham for that . i didnt realise there was a time control unit in the car . where abouts is it located and better still have you got a pic of one . dont want to start wrenching at the wrong thing.lol

Its in the right hand bottom corner of the drivers footwell, take the whole plastic cover off and its an opaque platsic box the size of a fag packet

US version, but its the same unit but on our drivers side lol
