Another quick one (hopefully)...

Got some speaker components a while back from someone on the forum but under the understanding that they may/may not work. Now...how can I test them without wiring them up into the car to check this?

I'm not very electrical-literate but there must be some way I can wire them to something?? I don't have a component hifi system with separate amp etc so that's out of the question...any other ways?

I only have one speaker working in the car at the moment and AFAIK all speakers are originals. Got an aftermarket cd/radio jobby but it's nothing spectacular.

Hope to one day upgrade the entire system to an all singing all dancing carputer system and full sound system upgrade but for the time being just want 4speakers that work!

Cheers guys

I should probably add.....if anyone can recommend any cheaper alternatives for subs/amps then that would be awesome too. Not looking for anything amazing right now but if I can get something half decent for not so much right now as a stop-gap then that would be good.

Thanks again!

If you can get to southampton I can take you to a trade place that sale JBL stuff very cheap.

if its just speakers and you have some speaker wire and a home system that you can wire them up to, they will be fine for testing on your home system before you add them to the car. don't worry about the car speakers being 4omhs and the stereo at home being 8omhs as all you are doing is testing. easiest solution, if they work on your home system, wire them up to the car.

Cheers buddy. That's what I thought of doing but I only have an ipod dock with speakers at home ;-(

Not sure if it#s possible to do it with that? Or I guess just get some speaker wire and hook it up to any 'audio' out?? i.e. on a tv?

That is very interesting mate! I guess if I know what I want then that could be good but I have no idea!

I have some speakers as I said but wouldn't mind getting whatever I need to get a half decent sound ..i.e. amp/sub/diff speakers etc but I know nothing about this sort of stuff so wouldn't know where to even begin!

if you can get access to the inside of the iphone dock, just wire it up to the speaker thats already in it. might not sound very loud (though would depend on how loud the system is already) you should be able to tell if the speakers work or not.

All you would have to do,is unscrew the unit (please note this would most likely remove any warranty you have on the device unless its already out of warranty) locate the speaker cables and just wire up the speakers to that one. doesn't have to be a neat job, just make sure the speaker wire is attached to the speaker wire and nothing else. no desoldering required. just unscrewing and removing the case to expose the wires.

He Lives !!!!

Woooo.

Also to check the speaker isnt dead, get a 9v battery (PP3) and place the terminals of the battery on the terminals of the speaker. In phase +to+ the speaker should click outwards.

This will determine that there is free movement of the speaker, but not necessarily that its in perfect working order. If its been dropped it could be off centre or fried the basket will not move at all.
