Hi folks, haven't posted on here for some time due to selling my Zed in mid 2009 but like visiting frequently as the banter is always fresh.

Anyway was browsing the internet to see what 300zx's were for sale these days when i came across my old car on ebay.....CLOCKED. I sold it in the summer 2009 on a private sale with 97000 miles and couldn't believe it when i saw it for sale with 78000 miles!

Just thought i would post it on this forum as i was a member here with that car and just incase any member was to but it or think of buying it its true mileage will probably be over the 100,000 mile mark by now.

Sad to think some people do this to cars like 300zx's,espcially when it throws the likes of timing belt schedules right out the window.

Cheers

Ronnie

Report it mate, looks like the person selling is a trader.

Good to see you online mate and agreed not good that this goes on but nice one for the heads up to members...and agreed it could be worth a message to e bay explaining who you are and what you know etc!

  • Author
I bet you sold it for less than £2495!

Yeah sold it for 1850 at the time

Cheers, yeah will be reporting it to ebay as well as autotrader as i've just found it there as well

Worth a shot mate and saves a potential buyer getting more than there expecting!

I'm sure a well worded message to e-bay will make them think twice on the listing not sure autotrader will take the same approach :/

just ask a question and make it visable to all

I think only the seller can choose whether to make the question & answer visible to all. :shifty:

its shite that it happens, I bought an RS Turbo 9 years ago which had done 97,000 miles. Had a folder with £10k+ of receipts, but when I decided to go through them one day there were records from 5 years before with 150,000 miles on. :(

Sent a report to ebay, will call autotrader to report it too but i agree with yourself on autotrader.

It says in the ad that all previous mots are present from import and the full history is present,i was thinking of phoning the seller and asking for the mot test number from the top left hand corner of the certificate and entering that into VOSA's website. There you can check your cars mot history free of charge and it goes back a few years.

I remeber MOTing it on 2009 and it had 95000 at the time of the MOT so it should still be the same on the site....worth a try

just a thought, but is the seat and the gearstick top as you had it (since they look great compared to the steering wheel) have they tarted it up/ hidden something?

my point is that they could claim an 'admin error' for the ad mileage whilst actually be selling it displaying the real 100k+..we all know they do this cos it gets punters on the forecourt.- don't try hanging them until you know for sure it's happened. :)

again..just a thought!

Mines meant to have done 63000, my interior looks as nice as the one in your previous Z, but the wheel and knob leaves me suspicious....engine sounds good though, so ended up buying it anyway. Hpi checked reported nothing.

If you can report it, it's got to be worth it.

The only thing they might have done, is mistaken the reading for km since the car is an import and looks like it still has a km speedo.

However, on the bmw forum i used to use there was a chap that had had a 330i with 125k on the clock, sold it and it cropped up on ebay a few months later with 80k... amazingly it had been put in for MOT at 130k and failed then a week later back in for an MOT at 80k...! He reported it and the police were most interested, saying they had had a few complaints about the dealer.

I remember that one, think it was a 323i coupe.

i can add to this you swapped the car with davyj j on here for a gto i think who then swapped it for a p38 on gumtree the car then appeared for sale in aberdeen i then bought it as it was very cheap then sold car on e bay to a lad in lytham st annes called tim about 18 months ago .

Could have had a cluster change since you sold it?

Very possible.

I bet 90% of imports are all clocked anyway :hammer:

The car def had MPH clocks when i had it,then again as stated earlier it could have had a speedo/guage change?

What was the mileage when you had it?

That GTO was a quick car,it was twin turbo, kinda made me wish i had got a twin turbo 300zx as the speed difference was amazing.:)
