February 7, 200224 yr The hand brake light has started coming on, I've checked the fluid & it's a little on the low side. What spec fluid do I need to top it up with? Cheers Jay [This message has been edited by JayPSC (edited 07-02-2002).]
February 7, 200224 yr on the lid, mine says use only dot3 , but u try finding some, i could only find dot4 , so thats what it got im afraid, i think 4 is a pretty standard brake fluid nowadays, dot5 is more resistant to "boiling" making it a race/fast road spec brake fluid.
February 7, 200224 yr Dot 4 is fine, 5.1 is fine, personally I'd stay away from 5 though (from what I have been told - by a few trusted mechanic friends - it is generally very harsh on seals, and also extremely hygroscopic (absorbs water quickly), which means you end up changing it every year!)... Er.. note to self: must hit submit for people to be able to read this reply! Lol..
