Having owned my 300zx 8 years it feels kinda sad getting a new car, but due to the nature of these cars it's not practical given my circumstances.

Criteria for a replacement was 4 doors and reasonably quick so I bought this.

A Le Mans blue facelift M5 with nav and black/blue interior.

Still undecided whether to sell the zed or stash it away for a few years the money its worth doesnt make it worthwhile selling it given what i've spent on it.

Confession over.

Well I've had it 3 days now and all I can say is wow, what a fantastic car, its surpassed all my expectations, its my first BMW and for a car that was developed back in 96 the build quality and design of equipment layout is superb.

So easy to drive around town and effortlessly smooth, it really does feel like brand new car. No rattles or squeaks from the interior, suspension is smooth and ride is sublime.

Oh and my god does it shift, bury the throttle and its like warp speed, I thought my zed was quick but the delivery on this is amazing, just keeps going and going and going.

sorry to ask again, but how much MORE faster is the M5 to 100 than the zed lol. does it handle better or worse, i understand its a bit too early to make judgements.

according to torquestats.com the e39 m5 is 11.5 and the 300zx is 14.6 0-100, so quite a bit :)

Brakes are epic also, from appx 120-60 felt like i was going to go through the windscreen.

Nice car, very nice infact

Just be careful though. My mate bought a E46 M3 and slowly developed a bulging forehead until it got to the point I had to tell him to stop being an arse-wipe and stop going on about his fookin M3.

He shut up a bit when my 3.5k Zed toasted him - from any speed...

It might not happen to you, but just be careful - check the mirror regularly for early symptoms...

Small update with some new pics, some decent weather and I got round to giving the new car a bit of TLC

Gave it a good rinse off and washed it twice.

Then a claying, first time I'd ever done this and I was pleasantly surprised at the results, its so much smoother to the touch.

Then a quick polish, really needs a machine polish as it's pretty swirly, but not bad given the 130k plus miles it's done.

Then a going over with some poor boys wax.

Spent around 6 hours and even though it was all by hand its come up a treat.

Anyway on to the pics.

Still got the zed stashed away but its not seen any road action for getting on 8 months now :( seems kinda pointless keeping it really, unless I can get a very cheap classic policy, but having two fast cars seems a waste. I need the M5 for the baby seat and car share with 3 others who definately can't squeeze in the zed. Gonna get the few bits of body work done on it, give it a good clean and see how I feel about it then.

very nice mate  would love an M5 and looks like yours is a very nice example!!

Awesome cars mate, I will own one one day... I probably look twice a week at autotrader for them! (along with everything else....!) Glad you have positive reviews, always loved the E39 M5

well having done a bit of reading on the E39 M5 and ime mighty impressed:yes:..there a bloody rocket ship by the looks and 4 doors too, might go and find a dealer who has one and have test drive and see what develops so i take it back puplicly when i said "wash your mouth out"

Ha! Get one brian, you would love it! Alot of people under estimate "M" BMW's, thinking they are little more than a bodykit and some wheels. Of course alot of people get confused between M sport and proper M cars but there we go.

Nice and shiny but looks like a normal BMW to me they always have done i just dont get the appeal

True, it wont turn as many heads as the Z does, but still a very good looking car imo.

The appeal is an attractive 4 door saloon with a snarling V8 that would embarass most Sports cars on straights and through the twisties, including the Z unfortunatly, and is a very high quality car that makes other cars feel cheap and plasticky.

There are other praticle 4 door sports cars, like the Impreza, Evo, Monaro VXR....but they are all chavtastic low quality plastic monstrosities. Then you have the high performance models from Mercedes and Audi..etc , but they are never been able to compete as drivers cars with the M5. The M5 outperforms them all, and with style and high quality engineering.

Step outside and say that, you Pommy barsteward. Genuine Antipodean V8 DNA vs jackbooted Bavarian taxi? When was the last time a Beemer got round the Bathhurst circuit? Although, TBH, nothing beats the genuine HSV for true Oz thunder.

Sorry, cant stand them. They look like a Vauxhall omega with a rediculous bodykit stuck on and with a big old crude V8 slapped in. Its sometimes described as a cut-price M5, but its Cheap and tacky and I would'nt put it anywhere near in the same league.

Did I mention that i dont like them?

to answer your question :

Bathurst 12hr

2011 Class C - 1st place

2010 Class B - 2nd place

2009 Class A and Class D - 1st places

2008 Class B and Class C - 1st places

2007 Class A and Class F - 1st places

....shall I keep going :tt2: :tt2:

The one thing I can't stand is people who have facts to back up their opinions  I give in about Beemers/Bathurst :nelson:

The Holden Commodore (on which Monaro/HSV are based) is not simply an Omega. Until 2006, it was based on the GM Omega but "the floor plan was widened and stretched;" and after 2006 "VE is the first Commodore model designed entirely in Australia, as opposed to being based on an adapted Opel-sourced platform".

And the HSV has some proper racing DNA being a joint venture with TWR.

Fair enough you don't like Holdens - each to their own is what I say - but I'll only start liking BMWs when they fit indicators that work and an anti-dickhead device to the front door handle

Oh and don't let bantambunny hear you say

a rediculous bodykit stuck on and with a big old crude V8 slapped in.
