Bearing in mind I have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever should i attempt to replace my standard airbox with an aftermarket induction kit?

Is it an easy job or should I let someone more competent do the job? Just finishing off my sub enclosures and enjoying working on the car so wondered if i should give it a go.

A link to a 'how to' would be good!! :tt2:

easy enough to do have a go, the standard filter got lots of bits and bobs to it but pretty straight forward.

Hi Dave,

It's pretty easy TBH; although removing the old air box can be a bit fiddley. Also, do leave in the spashguard that is fitted under the airbox - otherwise on a wet day you'll get water into the new filter which can make the car run like a pig!

It should take you around 1/2 - 3/4 of an hour.....

Thanks alot guys. Finished the carpentry so quick cuppa then get my mechanics head on. LOL.

just be very careful when you remove the nuts and bolts, count them when you take them off and make sure none drop into the pipework! you really dont want them getting to your turbos!

All done and dusted :smartass:

Thanks for the advice and encouragement, I know you guys think this stuff is easy (and it was to be fair) but having never touched cars apart to drive and clean them it's a confidence thing. Don't want to do any damage.

Really pleased with myself, subs enclosures are in and just need carpeting, induction kit fitted. Good day in the life of Zed ownership :cool3:

BTW, Dan that link was perfect mate, nice one.

As said mate its not so hard and lol if i can do it then you can my mechanical knowledge is laughable, ok i can change plugs and service items on cars but wont touch the zed, i did however remove the standard airbox and fit the cone with no issues (apart from the lack of space to work in under the panel)

Now this might just be wishful thinking, but i've been out for a drive and i'm pretty sure there is a noticable improvement in performance. Seems a lot more responsive. Am i going mad? It's a Bllitz sus that i've fitted if that's of any relevance.

if its a TT you may see a slight improvement more so if you have other supporting mods :) did not notice any gains in my n/a only the induction noise on some right foot exercise

i had a blitz sus on mine before some toe rag nicked it when it was in at zxtreme being "not worked on" ...i must admit it did seem to sharpen up throttle response and tied with a decat exhaust and reprogrammed chip made a hell of a difference

I've got a decat exhaust so maybe I wasn't imagining it :cool3: Either way, i'm back in love with the old girl. Hicas lockout next for me.

Too right! Last Z specialist that did this job to get at my oil cooler did exactly that allthough i could never prove it! After the shambles they gave my rebuild back in, i now know it was them who forked my Turbo and cost me a re-build!

All done and dusted :smartass:

Nice work Dave! Not all of us will bother to do these bits ourselves mate - I'm a bit like that as well. But it's a great feeling when you do attempt a job yourself and and all goes well!!

good on you mate, only way to learn on these cars is to get stuck in and try things for yourself. Once you start stripping engines and trying trickier jobs, do you learn more about how things work. They at first look really complicated, but experience is the key. Just wait till you try and remove a gearbox or clutch or an engine. Then its a whole different kind of pain. Your knuckles will never be the same.

Well done.

Cheers guys, I know it's no big deal but i'm chuffed. Can someone point me in the direction of the fuel lines please. I have no sense of smell so haven't noticed, but been told it's smelling of fuel. Would a good place to start be tightening all the connections on the fuel lines? And could this be one of the reasons i'm getting 180miles to a full tank?!

And before anyone panics i'm not getting carried away, it'll be back in Mark(silverbullet)'s capable hands next week.

if you get a braided fuel line kit off Smithy it removes some uneccesary fuel lines and reduces the chance of any future leaks . plus it looks nice and blingy under the bonnet

well worth it, one of the first mods i did to mine and cured the petrol smell overnight

Cheers Steve, was looking into braided lines last night, didn't think of smithy doh! I'll get a price off him. Time to start smartening up the engine bay me thinks.
