I'm having some issues. I've never reinstalled XP on my PC since I had it, probably about 6 - 7 years now. it's a 2.1Ghz dual core with 1Gb ram so good enough for what I need it for. I decided to reinstall windows as it was getting a bit slow.

Backed up all my data onto a 1Tb external drive and made sure I had everything.

Put the XP disc in and booted from it.

Deleted the existing partition and created a new 32Gb partition (for XP and Apps) leaving a partition of 218Gb.

It formatted the disc, created the partitions and started copying the files.

It then told me that it could not copy OLE32.DLL and asked me if Iwanted to retry or skip. I retried 3 times and then skipped.

Same again with OLEAUT32.DLL, tried 3 times and skipped.

All other files copied ok.

System finished installing and restarted, then it bluescreened with the following:

STOP: C000021a {Fatal System Error }

The windows Logon Process system Process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000080 (0x00000000 0x00000000).

The system has been shut down.

I tried rebooting, tried recovering and tried again from scratch but it always had problems with the two files above and always gave me the error above.

I also tried to go into the repair XP option choosing c:\windows to repair but it then asked me for the administrator password. I tried blank, password and admin and then got booted out because it was wrong on all three accounts.

Any Ideas what I can do to get going again. I have another PC right next to it so downtimes not an issue.

Sounds like your install disc is corrupted. You may get away with making an image copy of that disc and reinstalling from the new disc.

You could always download a full install image via a torrent site, then burn it to disc. Then simply use your currently valid Key code to validate it. As long as the torrent file is the same version as your current corrupt disc, then it'll be fine, as a Key isnt specific to a particular disc, only the OS version.

Forgot to add....

That way it isnt illegal (as such), as what you pay for is the licence (Key) and not actually the software.

I would do what Dave suggests.

I think OLE32.DLL relates to hardware failure so could be a problem with your hard disk. But another xp image might overcome that.

Thanks guys,

I'm a little worried about downloading windows from a torrent site as they could have some virus or spyware included free of charge. www.x xxx.org a good one to try?

lol, thanks.

It's a Mesh machine. Nforce Motherboard.

When I reinstall a pc I always run fdisc to the hard drive. before formating with the windows disc. This clears everything, so you get no suprises when insatting an OP system
