Is there a reasonable explanation???

300zx TT import '91

Now when I got the car one of the lasting impressions was how crap the brakes were. As i was intending to up rate them I wasn't overly concerned. However the car began making a sqweeking noise and the brakes got worse.

Now the car is no longer making the noise and the brakes are now as I would expect - not great but I can stop without having to open the door and use the sole of my feet.

I have no intention of fidling with my new found braking ability - but wondered if there was a reason for the chane around and if it is a sign of a fault which I can fix.

can be anything really..

maybe the discs were dirty/rusty, the pads were glazed or one or more cylinders in the caliper(s) got stuck.

Though it's nice to hear that there is actually a Zed that fixed itself ! wink.gif

It might just be cos they are cold. Start your Z in the morning drive to 30mph and slam on, its shit.

Drive for an hour and do the same, they are fantastic.

If I was you change your pads.

Stu,

That sounds like the characteristics of aftermarket performance pads. If you use the standard ones they work OK when cold - at least mine do. Have a set of Greenstuff to put on when these are worn out though.

Just make sure you are not down to the metal anywhere. Squeaking can come from the worn out pads metal schreechers on the brake pad shims. Its supposed to scare you into getting them checked out. I think worn out pads will probably still stop you but they'll do it by ripping the surface off your discs permanently. If youve got other than std wheels you can often feel the disc surface both sides thru the wheels with your fingers to check for roughness.
