Heres a how to on replacing the heater core without removing the dash(may have some helpful info):

Not to sure if the heater core is repairable - if you put rad weld or something similar in the core it may leak somewhere else later on, due to age of the whole unit(plus I've never have any luck with rad weld type stuff and wouldnt want it going around my Zed's engine).

I thing a heater core on its own is about £150 if I remember right(had mine done by SE-Nissan last year).

Hope this helps.

Get the car checked for earth leaks!!!

When mine went the next three lasted six months in total. The cause of the problem was eventually found to be an earth leak. Stray currents, especially when the starter motor is turning over can cause electrolytic corrosion of the matrix. I found an article in a trade radiator magazine that reported destruction of radiator elements in less than a day in some circumstances.

many thanks guys for all of your help, hope I can return the favour one day.
