Air Filter

Goddamit

Just decided to check air filter elements on '90 Z32 and managed to disassemble airbox and remove airflow meter. Removed filter elements and decided it would be a good idea to run the car with just the airflow meter box reattached. Seemed ok, albeit a little rough at tickover, so thought i'd replace the old filters until i obtain a new set (or cone). Fitted filters and reassembled filterbox/airflow meter etc. Now the thing nearly stalls and will only rev to 2500rpm exactly, at which point the engine cuts (almost like a limiter). Ahhhhh. Any ideas as to what i've done wrong/broken...!!!!

Did you reconnect the air flow meter correctly ? Try doing an ECU diag.

Will try and find out how...... cheers fella Cant believe i gotta drive to work wi 2.5krpm in the mornin'. Gonna have Corsas' all over me! 'Barassin'

Hi,

Try disconnecting the battery for half an hour. This will reset the ECU to default settings. The car will then re-learn the different parameters within a few miles.

I had a similar problem when removing an intake hose to do some work on the car, and ran the engine with one pipe off.Afterwards the engine ran like s%*t.The above remedy fixed the problem though.

Also check that the AFM is connected correctly.

JEZ

Cheers JEZ. Will try after work tonite. Got out dragged from the lights by Pug 205 1.1 this morning. Held head in shame!

Just to add, failure to rev past 2500rpm is one of the symptoms of the ECU seeing no signal at all from the MAF sensor (airflow sensor)..

Sorted. Dodgy connection on the Mass Air thingy cable. Thanx all. Off to the pub...

Found a huge hammer, so might attempt a Throttle Body clean out tomorrow. Keep an eye out for some frantic posts.

Cheers

aahh.....hammer, sounds like my kinda work.

after my chef impression from the muppets on my air filter indulgence, reckon i`m highly qualified for any dismantling task!!!

lets get to work.

the A-team will have nothin` on us!
