I'd guess your oil had filtered away from your valves, hence making a tapping noise as they warmed up, once oil circulated fully then they would be lubricated and stop the noise,

they all do that after beeing of the road for a longer period..and it's not something to worry about, unless it doesn't go away after a 15 minute drive.

If this is the case you can try to add a small amount of ATF to the engine oil and see if that helps

Yep - guess what, started my car last night..

Sounded exactly the same.. 20 mins of idling, and racing the engine every now and then, and the tappets shut up nicely smile.gif

mines the total opposite, when i start the car it doesnt tap, but once it gets warm its starts. iam getting my oil changed soon so i hope it goes away.

lymon- whats a ATF?

ATF - Automatic Transmission Fluid (oil, basically, has a lot of friction modifiers in though for the auto box).. Dexron III is what the power steering and auto box take on a Z32..

As Eric says, you can also add a little ATF to the engine which will often quiet down particularily stubborn lifters..

thanks everyone for your input at least i can sleep at night now not worrying of beating my credit card again cheers all.

Don'nt worry the credit will be out sooner or later... wink.gif
