I have the full set and in the instructions it says that if any of the old bushes have a steel shell around them leave it in but scrape any traces of the old rubber off it before fitting the polybush.

But im sure some people here said that they cut this shell out with a hacksaw blade so im not sure which method to go for..

I have installed the Energy Suspension bushings and

you need to press out the whole old bushing.

If you would leave the outer metal layer, you wouldn't be able to press

the new bushing in.

Also, when pressing in the new bushing, grease it well and

take out the inner metal tube.

This will make it easier for the bushing to contract.

When I did my tie rods I took out the sleeves by catching the edge of the remaining sleeves with a cold chisel and knocking it away from the holder. Once the tension was off the circumference it basically fell out leaving a clean mounting for the new one. I doubt you would get the new one in the tension rod without removing all the shell parts of the old one. Maybe your instructions refer to other subframe bushings?

Another tip I discovered after much trying to push in the new bush straight on and all centred. It would jump out or go squint and each time I would reset the vice and start again. Dont - just let it go all distorted and lopsided as you force it in (sounds like a bishops and actress joke) It straightens up just fine the more you get it in! Amazing elasticity in these things! Before you know it is right thru! Then as Maciej says push in the SS tube. Mind and use the assembly grease - I forgot on the first one.

I've done this job on two Zeds now and both are still fine.

You need to knock all the bits of old bush out or that new bush will not fit.

As for the SS insert, another tip I found is to use a bar down the middle of the tube for extra leverage as the little blighters get mighty frisky when they're covered in grease. biggrin.gif
