I fitted a new expensive heavy-duty battery four weeks ago and have had it on trickle charge over this cold spell. I was going out for a drive this morning turned the key and the instrument lights began flickering, I didn’t even bother trying to start the car I guessed the battery was flat, I checked the voltage it read 7.4v. it was 13.2v. when fitted. I know the cold weather is bad for batteries but this shouldn’t have happened, should it?

if its new i would just take it back mate i think most come with 3 years warranty and the heavy duty mostly have four years :)

generous grease is all a battery terminal ever dreams of cos they hate frost.* But I'd bin that trickle charger faster than Lohan can sniff.* If leaving your batt/car for a month (for example) simply remove the negative (black)lead and secure away from terminal. The batt will last years, and no pre-charging, with this treatment.

naturally, if you have no secure parking and an alarm-I realise I am just making you laugh.

no drama.

Yes this is what i have done :)

ive just had battery issues myself . its hardly been used for the last few weeks for obvious reasons and the battery froze (literally). 6 hours by the rad for a gentle defrost and 24hrs gentle charge and she fired up fine this morning . the big test is if she will hold charge and fire up again in the morning . fingers crossed

Batteries hate the cold, even spare batteries stored in your garage should be kept of the cold concrete floor, cos they lose the charge.I was watching a tv program ages ago about some guys in the Artic and the had their 4x4s,every night theyd remove their batteries and put them at the bottom of their sleeping bags to keep them warmer,I think you should do this aswell, just dont tell your missus theres a battery in her bed.Hahaha!

My battery (or I should say an alternative battery to the small one that was in) is currently on trickle-charge. The original died after about 2 weeks doing nothing, but don't think it was the right battery.

I have a good trickle charger/conditioner and it seems to do the trick.

I had the same Problem with KITT two weeks ago. Had a Brand new battery on from Halfords only 5 weeks onld and it was deader than elvis. I wouldn't care but the battery was only new because the one that was on had to be taken back to halfords for being faulty within 6 months. :(
