This might seem a daft thing to do but can it be done ?

Theres so many things i would like to add to my 1996 series 4 but cant

as theres no parts about as easily as a series 2.

Couple of things i'm on about would be cruise, stock turbo guage, series 2

electronic heating controls.

I was thinking if i get a new engine loom, ecu and dash loom can it be done ?

I seriously would not bother with the Stock boost gauge, its useless - innaccurate and unreliable - most people disable it and fit an aftermarket gauge.

Im presuming you must have the Manual heater controls? Unfortunatly both the Cruise and heater control conversions seem to be a bit of an unknown as to which parts are compatible, as the manual contriols in particular are extremely rare.

But If you can get hold of a donor vehicle such as the remains of a breaker then its perfectly feasable to transfer all nessasary parts.

These are'nt really series 2 parts, they came with the Series 4 too (boost gauge excluded), its just that they became options rather than standard fitment.

thers a zee in shawlton scrapies engines out but lecies n thats r still there donno if its worth a look

having fixed my manual aircon door motors and bought the wrong bits i can confirm very little is compatable

the entire way it works is different

the manual control tells one motor where to move to dependant on where you move the lever to and senses if it has

the auto control monitors lots of air temps and tells 3 motors to move ,but doesnt check they have physically moved, but instead checks if the temperature has changed

so you need at least:

new pod

new ecu

new air ducting with sensors fitted

wiring loom for sensors

new door motors

and posssibly new airbox heater matrix (this bit is only a gues

I was thinking the full dash loom needs to be changed first off then the ecu and pods,

the rest actually looks the same on the mechanical side.

Whats the door motors ? never knew there was any controlling air flow in there.

Another thing that bugs me is the manual controls dont light up so good as the right

side pod and it doesn't look that great.

by door motors i meant the motors that move the flaps ("doors") that decide which ducting to send the air down

looking at my series 2 and the series 4 they look very similar.

I can strip the dash out in less than an hour now so wouldn't be a huge job for me to do.

I much prefer the look and feel of the series two aircon pods and swapping these over

would be great - and i'll likely be the first to attempt it too.

behind the centre vents is a box with flaps, on the series 4 there is a motor on the driver side of the box somewhere above the aircon ecu. it moves all 3 flaps by various amounts depending on what you select on the pods. it's a pig to get to.

i bought a replacement for this from a earlier car and it was different (both in physical shape and number of electrical connections. the series 4 motor seemed to know where it was and feed this back to the ecu, whereas the series 2 seemed to just be told to move a bit.

maybe i was sold the wrong part, who knows

I`ve probably got all the bits on my scrapper that you may need, but havent got the pods, let me know what you need.

dont think there is any problem mixing 8 and 16 bit ecus

i slammed a old main ecu in my series 4 with no problems with any of the other ecus

Still up for these spare bits daz !

got the pods today so just need everything else, i.e loom ecu and anything else

I'll probably have an ECU, what is it you need ? Can be socketed/chipped or not ...

Need the ecu that's down the drivers side and the full loom

that goes to the pods and loom that goes to the main ecu !

Mine is a manual Aircon and the loom is totally different !

Sorry, only have engine ECU's. The ones you need should be easily/cheaply obtainable from any breaker, they are common and seldom go wrong.

Another thing that bugs me is the manual controls dont light up so good as the right

side pod and it doesn't look that great.

I think you don't have the right kind of bulbs in your pod, this is mine with a combination of red and blue leds

I want another as the speed control knob is missing and the 4th speed numeral is all mashed up but it is not beating me up and yes they are impossible to find
