My new exhaust is rubbing slightly against this shield that runs across the back of the car and is making an annoying screeching noise. What does this shield do and can it be removed / jigsawed down to size?

yeah, it's only made from crap-ite, you should be able to re-shape it a bit with a little brute force, see where it's rubbing and bodge accordingly :)

ok thanks for the input folks (especially Gary!) - it's rubbing at the point highlighted in red so i'll see if i can take a hammer to it and gently knock it forward toward the fuel tank. if you hear of a large explosion in the Leicester area then that means I tapped too hard!

There should be some rubber stapled to it in each corner where it may touch the underside of the car, maybe one of these has fallen off?

 

The guard is held on by 4 10mm bolts and can be taken off quite easily for a look.
