FAO JeffTT or anyone who understans conzult!

Got a hold of conzult and just wanted a knowing member to check out these

readings and see if they make sense and if anything needs to be adjusted.

I'm still thinking i've got some sort of leak down the passengers side of the

engine; i've checked and carefully listened but cannot pinpoint it; seems to

be down the back end of the right side of the balance bar - small hissing noise.

Anyways heres the pics of conzult.

try spraying some brake cleaner around the area with engine running will change the way it runs when it find a leak if sucking in air hope it helps

Lets deal with the air leak in a moment, first the ConZult screen shot

You have a couple of issues to deal with first, the tps is way too low at 0.28 and should be around 0.46 and an active ( open ) EGR valve at normal running temp.

The low tps reading can effect egr operation, the low tps will also cause bad auto box shift changes and in manuals cause poor idle / recovery when changing gear at low speeds.

Back to the hissing noise, if you are referring to the noise been behind the balancer bar and to the right as you look at the engine from the front, then its most likely your hearing the air going through the idle control valve, also the vacuum pipe to the egr valve runs close by.

If you deal with the tps first then its likely the egr valve will respond, if not disconnect and block off the vacuum pipe to it ( from the solenoid on the bulkhead by the brake booster.

Once done redo the ConZult screen shots and post up again, oh and before anyone notices the timing at 7deg that's completely normal with your engine/ cas unit / ecu model they wander all over the place!!

Just a quick thought, we did a ConZult check on your car at JAE the tps would have been checked then??? you had any work done in that area?

(The voltage should read between 0.4 and 0.5V with the throttle closed)

With igntion on ( no need to run the engine) and with the ConZult connected, loosen the two screws on the top and bottom of the TPS, rotate it until the sensor voltage is within 0.4-0.5V. and then tighten up.

After you adjust the TPS, you will have to reset the idle position memory, disconnect the flying lead to the tps and watch the tps value on the ConZult it will go all the way to max. Once max is reached plug the lead back in and your done.

Your base idle is a tiny bit high as well you need to see around 33% on the idle control vale bud .

Do you mean this value should be around 33% ??

If you do this could cause the idle control to be excessivly active and lead to poor throttle close recovery, also when the engine was cold the valve % would be excessively high, this again could result in unstable idle control when approaching junctions.

There is no need for the idle control to be open third of its max capacity, at full working temp with a well set up engine 15% is the target and is easily attained.

Adjustment techniques such as this are often know as the SYS method and also refers to such things as throttle balance, timing, tps, air/boost leaks.

By using the extremes of the settings on these items the engine will run reasonable but will after a short time need adjustments again as small changes do occur in use and with settings at border line they soon tip over into the wrong setting, bad for the car and bad value for the customer,

Oh and the SYS method.......... "see you soon" :)
