speedo

Has anyone ever had their speedometer suddenly stop working then suddenly start working again?

Featured Replies

YES!

Happened to me a few months ago. But my one suddenly then decided not to work. In the end it was the dial that was knackered.

It could be your speed sensor. If it is, your cruise control wont work, and the power steering will go all wonky.

If it keeps doing it, take the dash out and resolder some of the joints. If you want take out the actual dial and do the same to that. Some would have got dry over time and by the looks of them, some never had enough solder on them in the first place.

Hope this helps

Yes it must be the speed sensor as I went out this morning and the p/steering went wonky. Where is this sensor?

If you need one, I've got one for a manual & an auto box!

If interested then drop me an E-mail.

EV,

If your car is a JAP import this is more likey the Speed converter. Had the same problem where the speedo would suddenly die, and after 5 mins or running the PAS would stop working as well.

How do I check the sensor? My car is a 91 UK spec.

Err, I dont think you can actaully test it. All I can think is put someone elses in yours. Where abouts are you?

I'm in london. How easy is it to get to, is it a DIY job?

Ev,

Ummmmmmm, me toooo. My needle used to VERY occasionally acquire a mind of it's own and go jump about for a couple of minutes - then suddenly return to normal. BUT since I fitted the CARTEK KMPH/MPH converter (only 85 squid from Luke at the Z Centre)it's gone completely MAD on a regular basis!

I have done all the checks that all the lovely folks on this forum have suggested - but it's still the same - so I am trying to source a new speedo unit replacement. If that does' ant work I will let you know!!
