Hi all,had a phone call today from body shop, saying the skirts i have will not fit unless they spend alot of time trimming, re shaping and grinding etc etc.Bought the skirts from car mad styling ww style, the skirts are fine no problem with them at all, but where the car has been welded on, the sills and the start of rear arches etc over the years the shape has changed slightly.Question is should i persevere with the skirts, or should i get the sills smoothed over and repainted. When i had the phone call i thought they were going to tell me the car was ready for collection job done. They also removed rear bumper and rust has eaten away the lower half of the rear arch so bumper cannot be secured, another £200 for welding!!

Depends on the front bumper choice really. Some look fine without skirts, some really dont.

I have standard front bumper.Cant get over how many post you have, you must have the record.

Hi i would leave them off for now and get the bodyshop to smooth your sills, you can allways have them fitted later on when you get a new front bumper.

I think side skirts look very nice but sadly cause problems with the least one being the ability to jack the car up after they are fitted as they lower the profile and go over the jacking points on the cills. The biggest problem is that shite gets trapped behind them which remains wet and causes corrosion. To fit skirts properly you should first of all ensure everything in and around the area is good and solid. Once fitted, the void between the skirt and the cill should be filled with expanded foam, this then forbids the ingress of muck and water and lessens the opportunity for corrosion. Personally I would leave them off especially if you already have evidence of corrosion in and around the area as it normally developes from inside due to blocked drain holes and the fact that the targa roofs drain into the cills as well.Once the skirts are fitted now, the corrosion will continue to eat through the bodywork but will not be readily spotted if covered by the skirts. If the corrosion does become an issue for the next MoT, they will need to come off which normally buggers them anyway.
