Ok folks my audio knowledge isnt too great so im after help from someone. I have a sony CDX GT 300 head unit that has 6 plugs in the back. red and white for audio out front. red and white for audio out rear and red and white for BUS in i think it was not sure what these are for.

So i plug in my cables to the red and white rear ones and have run them to the sub and hooked them up but i am getting the faintest of sound out of the sub what is it that im missing. Ive looked through the menus and have a option for the sub that i have moved from left to right and still no difference and it also goes to ATT whatever that is but still no change.

Im sure there are some simple checks that someone can think of that i could do.

Cheers

Marty

Bus will be the input for the cd changer, its hard to say without a picture of the rear of the unit, or the instruction book.

Here is the link to the book

You need to use the rear signal output to run the sub off look at the wireing diagram. Is the sub Active or Passave, does it have a 12v feed input

or just speaker terminals?

It is a 12in Infinity sub just has speaker terminals on it and i was running it off the rear audio out ones

with out looking i couldnt say for sure but the most common problem is the earth, as most consider any metal a good earth. so best thing to do is make sure the paint around your earth point is off so the earth goes straight to bare metal. I always use a tech screw which is a self drilling metal screw (obviously take the washer off of it first though). these screws are really good as easy to install plus very strong and secure. then i always paint over the top with some hammerite to ensure no rust.

are you wiring straight from your head unit to your sub, or are you going to an amp first?

straight from head to sub was the plan

thats roughly it, you will deffo need to install an amp somewhere, and run its own power cable straight from the battery, alos the signal wires need to run down the opposite side of the car to the power, and im think there may be a dedicated 'sub out' on the back of your head unit

(edit)

scratch the 'sub out', it just a rear out

Also do i not need a power cap to stop it cutting out when it is draining at its max?

Withe the sub being 400 watt RMS and 1600 watt peak what power amp and wiring kit as i going to need as i have seen all sorts so far?

the remote turn on lead makes the amp only switch on when the stereo is on, same way the aerial goes up when the radio comes on

cool i think i saw a lead like that on the back of the head unit

the remote lead is usually blue on sonys :-)

you wouldn't need a power cap just to just to run that sub, there should be no worries about it cutting out as long as your battery is ok, but what will happen is that your headlights will dim a little with the beat when its cranked up, annoying but copable, so it all depends on your budget really

the more power the better for the amp :-) well, up to a point lol, ive allways discovered that its better to have a more powerfull amp which you can run at about half way, this way the amp dosent get overworked. i havent bought an amp for years now, so i dont know whats the best these days, but im sure you cant go too far wrong if you get something around 1000w, maybe something like this

Ah super cheers and the wiring kit i would need then would need to match the amp power? I have seen a magnat 800w amp going for £40

Didn't realise it'd be this much trouble for you Marty! Sorry dude. I have a magnat 'amp' in mine(see my other thread) and it's been really good. Run my sub and fronts of it. I have another sub with a built in amp, doh!!
