Does it matter if you have non synthetic oil in you engine and you then replace it with fully synthetic. do they mix?

Featured Replies

from what im led to believe our engines run best on 10/40 semi syn fella, Well thats the advice i got from opie oils and ive been running semi synthetic in all my zeds with no problems at all, May want to consider a 5/10 semi syn for the winter though to allow the oil to get round the engine quicker in this cold weather. Id drain out the engine chap and go semi synthetic.

oh ok cheers, well they sent me 5/30 fully synthetic so will use that this time but you recommend semi next time? will it be ok to drain the current oil out, change the filter and replace with fully synthetic. as you can never get all the oil out and i know that you cant mix most hydraulic oils so just wondered if it was the same with engine oil.

fully synthetic can be used no problem and many do on here does your engine have many mods?

good quality full synth is far more stable and offers more protection, this is reflected in the price though.

10w/40 would be fine then but you can put a fully synthetic oil in if you wanted :)

^^^ This is correct.

Synthetic is a better choice, for a standard car 5w-40, but the 5w-30 you got will be fine, especially this time of year!

All oils mix so it does not matter it you mix some semi with a full synthetic.

Cheers
