hey guys, ive bin running in safety mode since a bought my Z 3wks ago,got a resistor today, 1megaohm,put it in the dett sensor plug, just like commenly done, used my ECU talk to clear codes and read them. i ran the engine, already at temp coz jst got back from long trip. got the code 34, cleared it,shut down, put in resistor. started her back up,waited 30secs read the codes and it said unable to read codes due to some error, then something about a diesel ECU,lol, cleared that lol, tried afew more times, closed down ecu talk, started it agian, then got code 34 again!took it for a spin, still boosting low,

now wat do i do lol,

any help would be great,id like to fix it asap lol,

also- i got a code 54, A/T comm, guessin thats to do with the EX auto box as its had a manual conversion.

another thing is my ambient temp on the climate control think its in accurate lol, when it gets warmer, it says it like 2 degrees lol, no biggy but bit weird.

Did you plug it into the ecu side of the loom, also are you sure you got the correct connector. iirc there are about 3 plugs in that area.

yea im pretty sure, dett side disappers down between to the block, the wires on the sensor side used to hav a choc block on, but i soldered them thinking it would solve the prob, didnt, im gona do a resistance test on the harness, any tips on this?

thanks guys

Do it at the ECU instead of the connector. Pins23 and 50.

As above, the reason its best to do it this way, is that you dont know for sure if there is a break in the wires going to the ecu. A dodgy wire on the sensor can give the same code 34 even if the det sensor is ok.

ok, im going to try it tonight, when im taking the ecu out, am i taking the zinc plated bracket off? the 3 10mm screws? the pull out harness connector and put the black lead on pin 50 and red on 23, just so im straight so i dont get frustrated lol.

super thanks to lee dent :)

You just need to access the harness and plug. A wire on 23 and a wire on 50. Doesnt matter which way round as a resistor isnt polarity dependent, The resistor creates a load to mimic the voltage from the det sensor. So the load is placed across pin 23 and pin 50 in the wire entry of the harness plug. HTH

hey guys, :helpsmilie:

what ive done is ive soldered a 1megaohm resistor, reading 996 roughly, ive soldered two pieces of small wire to the each end of the resistor,i have the soldered a long piece of wire to one end and designated it ground, i the ran the wire behind the dash into a toggle switch near steering wheel, and a wire back again, tested is all is well,i then melted the insulation open slightly on the wire going to pin 23,beige ish colour, about 5 inch from the harness, just before were this beige wire meets a black thick wire.i soldered the non switch end into this beige wire.(pin 23) and the other end in to the small black wire.(pin 50) i put a switch in just incase for some reason it starts to detonate.plugd into ECU talk, started it up, all is well, check the codes, this is with the det sensor connected, but switched so that resistor is in circuit, error reading codes, i took this as no codes.shut down, switched the switch off(safety mode) start up again. code 34. clear codes.shutdown.start up with switch ON ( resistor) code 34 !, tried same with det disconnected, same, no difference, went for a drive still boosting 6, 0.4 bar ish, still slow below 3500, still have code 34. thinking ECU fubard? or maybe i should take away the switch and try again, do i need to cut the beige wire after my soldered connection? loosing hope.

anyhelp appreciated, hopefully lee can fix it if i dont get any luck

are you sure you have used a 1 mega ohm & not a 1 kilo ohm resistor ;)

just had a epiphany? where is pin 50 grounded to?

just a thought because i didt bolt the ecu bracket back down just incase i had more work to do, so if it grounds through that bracket then it wouldnt because it wasnt bolted down.

just a thought.would explain the error reading codes bit maybe?:hammer:

not 100% sure, i went to maplins and asked for a 1megaohm resistor, its grey if that means anythink, on the multimeter, i set it to 2000k? and the resistor starts at about 1250 then settles to bout 995.

thanks

is that ohms or k ohms on the meter?

hi sam im at home today if you want to pop over.ill check your work over for you and if its ok ill put my ecu on your car to try out....lee

hey there lee, thatd be great,im on phone to maplin now, they keep asking me what king of wattage? i said i dont know i just want a 1 megaohm resistor, lol, i asked them what colour theres was they said blue, mines grey?

i dont want to trouble you if you want some peace on ur day off lol,but would be nice to meet you :)

thanks mate :thumbup

its no trouble at all ill text you my address
