Hi,

Can anyone tell me the best way to get in contact with Darren (the expert 300zx mechanic). I'd like him to do my cam belt for me but he doesn't answer his phone and hasn't responded to my messages.

Has anyone else on here used him? Did you have difficulty contacting him?

Cheers,

Andy

lol i am trying to get hold of him right now.

i just left a message, what else can you do?

as Darren works at a main dealer during the day, it is sometimes difficult for him to answer the phone, either that or he has his hands full when you ring.

also, i know he is very busy at the moment, but, he does get back to you, it just takes a little time sometimes.

i know it is frustrating, from my own experience, but to me, it is worth the wait.

There must be someone in the Wiltshire area that knows about Zs. Anyone know of anyone? Do Paul Baily do cam belts, I think they're in Bristol, are they any good?

Cheers,

Andy

barbel, As far as i know Paul Bailey dont do the mechanical work themselves, only bodywork. Interpro do the engine work for them usually, I've heard fantastic reports and a few bad un's, so beware!

Simon Norris from Norris designs is right in your area, Chippenham i think, he works on all turbo Nissan's, how good he is on the Z i don't know, last time i went there it was with a wicked Silvia, hokey dokey, Smithy. i.o.m

p.s if he starts talking unichips speak with Ian at Hi-tec in Wigan first or you might regret it.

PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO INTERPRO!

Just trust me on this one.

Darren will be away for 3 weeks as of Saturday. He's getting married!

It's worth travelling to find someone to do the timing belt properly. Trust me on this one too!

If you can't wait for Darren then take your car to a specialist who works on Z's regularly. Check the Conatacts section. Also, Options Motorsport in Silerstone have gained an excelent repuation.

Bob Ford at Arriva Nissan in Peterborough. Not sure where you are though Andy, but the number is 01733 555670. Luke recommended him to me so can't be bad, and no he isn't...bad I mean...very good in fact.

Cheers

I'm in danger of introducing controversy here but I would say that cam belt change is one thing which DOESN'T require Z expertise. A competent car mechanic who you trust should be able to do it. It's a bit time consuming but it's not difficult.

If anyone has done their own cambelts before then they could do the Z one. It just takes care.

I had mine down by a local guy who I have total faith in. He'd never done one before but just took his time (and didn't charge me for all the time he took because he said it took longer because he hadn't got experience of it on this car!).

Don't allow someone to do it who you don't trust but, IMHO, you don't need to have someone who's done a million before. But if you've got that person handy then use them !

I know it's an unpopular option, but don't rule out your local nissan dealer. Mine services 5 or 6 Zs in the area, and the guys really know their stuff. I've had clutch, new clutch servo (bastard of a job), water pump, cambelt, etc. And they fit things like my mintex pads, etc too. At 46+vat an hour they ain't the cheapest, but cheaper than some other nissan dealers. But mainly they are professional, you get a courtesy car, and you know they are gonna do a good job.

This is Sterling Nissan in Ipswich. Maybe it's the only one that's decent right enough. who knows.

Not unpopular at all ;-)

Darren is da man from my local Nissan dealer and cambelts are best left to those that know the Z engine or there's risk of 24 bent valves if all goes wrong!
