My car came with a oil temp gauge. what is the ideal temp it should be showing? as mine can fluctuate between 85 and 96. it does have a dodgy connection somewhere as well as it can suddenly jump to 115 or 125, but then if you tap it it drops back down to around 80 to 90.

Funny you should mention this I have a digital oil temp gauge and during the week it has gone mad. It ranges from 72 to 100+ when on a run. It just gives random readouts. When it was working it never went over 82.

Have you checked the connectors on it? sounds like you might have a dodgy connection, do you have them in the side pillar mount or on the dash board?

Id really like to know what the ideal oil temp is.

stupid thing is I've got a spare oil temp gauge and a spare boost gauge id love a water temp gauge any one got one for a swap?

ive got one on a side pod down the window pillar but i want to know what the temp should be, what range is healthy so to speak

Well the oil needs to be over a curtain temp to work as designed, just about 90 or so. Once it starter to get over around 120 it will start to brake down. I would have thought you shoud see between 90 and 100 under normal driving.

aah that's ok then, it usually goes between 85 and 96, around that area, was just wondering that's all. no point having a gauge on the car that shows temp, if your not sure what is a healthy temp lol

Iain,

85 - 96 is okay, thats where she used to be all the time, obviously if you cane it (which i never did) the temp will go up, but no where near the 120!!

Rich..sigh!!!!

I'm starting to miss it..
