Here's the ad on Pistonheads - any tips on how I might have a bit more success in getting some interest. Not 1 single person has even been to view the car. Please don't say stick 6 months tax on it because sadly I can't magic £112 out my @rse to pay for it :tt2:

Any more tips on the ad? Suggestions where else I might advertise?

I'm not desperate to sell it (ie i'm not taking silly money for it) but I thought I might have had a bit of interest by now....

Looking at the add as say a potential buyer would, there is no mention of any service history, by that I do not mean a book full of stamps but mentione about any oil changes (regularly? ) cam belt done (?) maybe new brake pads on such and such date.

That kind of information gives a clearer picture of how its been looked after, and reassures potential buyers, even anywork done by a previous owner can be mentioned if relevant age and mileage wise.

I think it's a great looking example and obviously well cared for. The £3500 price tag offers very, very good value and the SWB models are more rare. The only thing that I can think of is that it's the time of year, Christmas around the corner etc.

If it helps the peak times for buying and selling cars is March - April just as the sun starts to come out again. If you are happy to hang on to it until then, I am sure it would sell very quickly.

The only other thing that springs to mind is the price...no I am not going to recommend you drop it but quite the opposite! When I was looking to buy my first Z around 14 months ago, I got very suspicious that so many were so cheap. I looked at the amount of car that you got for your money and for those that were priced under £4500 I found myself asking "what's wrong with it?" My recommendation is that you increase the price to at least £4500 and see what happens.

Hope this helps, best of luck with the sale.

Thanks both - thats helpful. The previous owner was a mechanic so he did his own servicing and did the belts etc, put in new rear shocks etc from Jeff. ZXTT - thats really thinking outside the box! I could definitely hang onto it for that long if I have to, because my job isn't going to be changing to working early and late shifts, so its not quite as urgent as I had thought it was. Just thought that perhaps the advert might not be as good as it could be.

Hmm, so, increase in the price then? Really?! Eek!

Glad you found my input helpful. I thought increasing the price may get some raised eyebrows. In my view it's all about "best value" (not cheap) and with more and more people looking for something different other than the usual Mercs, BMW's and Audi's under pricing can be a dangerous as over-pricing.

Your car looks special and should drive a greater premium than the usual Z's. I also agree with JeffTT, the more info on service the more peace of mind you will give people.

Best of luck.

I think your car looks stunning but disagree with ZXTT idea of raising the price, the problem is that most people buying these cars want a TT and they want to pay less than 2K for it. Also unless they are already on the 300 scene they will be looking for a targa version, hopefully for your sake I am totally wrong but I think you will struggle to get £3500 for it at anytime of the year!

I think the next 300 I buy will be a swb slik top and I would be very tempted to buy a yellow one but it would have to be a TT!!

As for improving your add I would have used the pictures from your rides as the ones in the add are no where near as good!

Good luck with the sale and hopefully I am wrong about the price!!

A agree that the price is too high also. I paid alot less for mine and I have a SWB TT T-Bar in black. Although I cant comment on how the two compare condition wise I have a mountain of service history / reciepts with mine and I probably would still price it up to sell for less than what you are asking for yours.

Hmm, interesting replies. I'm still none the wiser with regards to getting it sold. For my mind, £4500 is way too expensive because its an N/A not a TT but then I most definitely didn't want a TT because of running costs, etc so was glad to have found my N/A. Bottom line is that it is a specialist car really, most people won't know that a SWB slick top is as rare as rocking horse sh1t so I think it might end up going to someone on here or in the Jap car scene who knows their stuff. I must see about advertising on the Jap North East website - the people who organise the monthly meets at the Nissan HQ as that might generate some specialist interest.

I'm no longer in any massive rush to sell up tho, so can hang on, possibly tax in the new year to get it out and about/encourage test drivers etc.

Easy job to change the pics to the ones in my rides section - just thought the one of the engine was important but possibly not?

Only get 3 pics on the free ads on Pistonheads.

Any other suggested selling websites anyone?

A rare opportunity to aquire a superbly maintained and sought after striking "Pearl Yellow" Nissan 300ZX NA. It is the favoured Manual Slicktop configuration with short wheel base. Recently imported from Japan in 2008 so it has spent the vast majority of its life in more faverable conditions than the UK so is rust free!. This classic sports car looks and drives superbly and is certainly a head turner.

Carful female owner that has unfortunately had a change in circumstances so is being forced to sell. Priced to sell at £3500 first to see and drive will buy.

Then leave the list of mods etc in

Love it!!

thanks VERY much, appreciate it!

that does sound alot better, and agreed about the pics. the ones on pistonheads just dont do the car as much justice. i know when i was looking at buying my zed i looked at getting a tt and when i weighed it up the difference wasnt taht great so i went for a tt and i think most people probally do. for the right person its a bargin, but for joe blogs its an expensive zed when they could have a half decent tt for less. im sure you will sell it it will just take time.

thanks - will amend the pistonheads ad later and I've put the link to it on Jap NorthEast forum too. If I was desperate I might consider a part ex but if I still have the car at Easter with no interest then I'll start considering that route. I guess there are potential new members who might be interested and Kaza Steve's son is local to me and apparently he's seen me out in the car and is possibly interested.

Will get the ad right and see if get any interest in the coming weeks and months...

one other thing, i know you said about tax, but the one thing you really wanna do when buying any performance car is test drive it. no tax makes this exercise a little limited. would def put me off

Keep it Janus and if its kept in that condition it will double its price in 2 to 3 years imo.

Cars never sell at this time of the year onless its a Christmass present it will be Easter before the market picks up so any buyers out there will be looking for under priced bargains. So if you can hold on:)

I agree (Gary Wilson), it's my belief that our cars will become a real long term investment. What we need to do is start by fully representing their worth on this site and eventually prices for owners club vehicles will increase. This will then lead the market especially as they become more rare.

Just to repeat what has already been said. Its quite a strong price for an NA although its desirable being a slicktop. The problem is almost surely the time of year, just before christmas when these are often summer toys it does drive the demand (and therefore price) through the floor.

The other issue is that when most people look for a 300zx they buy the cheapest (i.e often autos, lwb etc) normally with poor results but unless they are an enthusiast and are looking for a specific car then they may view yours as poor value without actually knowing more about it.

I have thought about selling mine and come up against the same issues, I just dont tihnk it will sell until later on next year so why bother listing it!

It might be worthwhile paying the extra pennies for a premium advert.

If you look at, say the "300zx" folder on PH. All the "Premium" adverts are at the front of the folder then the standard ones are listed after that.

If you sort through them by price, it'll come up with the most to least axpensive premium ads then start with the most expensive of the standard ads.

Also, im pretty sure that you get to ad more photo's into the advert.

I would love to Gary believe me but its too expensive for me to run and insure for a daily driver, not to mention how much its condition would deteriorate as a daily driver - and I live on very little money. There's no margin for me to save monthly for a daily driver, in fact its pretty safe to say that my Zed is pretty much all my money tied up!

Thanks - I put it up for sale when I was offered a new job which would have been a 12 hours shift pattern, but when they went back on the salary offer, I declined the job offer, so I'm not so pushed to sell it now til I go back to Uni in Sept 2011 now although it is frustrating not having my own daily driver.

I think mine is def a more specialist car, I certainly didn't realise how rare it was when I bought it!

I will certainly consider that option at some point, Pistonheads seems to be better for selling these types of cars, rather than autotrader which is where I'd go for a daily driver....

I dont think its a case of being a bad advert or the price.

I think its a combination of a few things.

The time of year. 1 being nearly christmas, people dont want to spend money. 2 it being cold and wet and most people wouldn't want to buy now as some put them away for winter.

Also, the 300zx has a small audience, so be prepared to wait for the right buyer, even in the summer.

Also, most would have a 300zx as a second/toy car. With the current state of the country, not as many people can afford another car.

I always change my car/van more often than most (ask on e36coupe.com!), and ive never had a problem selling until the past 6 months...

Keep the ad going (with all the extra info stated) and just wait for the right buyer.

It could just be me being picky but I think your photos make the paint look a bit flat (which I know it isn't!)

Thanks all - seems there are 2 schools of thought re the price, some of you think its a good bargain, others think its overpriced, so I'm none the wiser lol!

Am just going to improve the ad and pics and leave it for a while, might tax it after xmas if I get some funds to do this and will see if it sells in Spring.....and I will stop torturing myself looking at potential daily drivers online til I have the money to buy one lol!

Jap import may turn people off. Why ?. Because they immediately think insurance will be a lot more expensive. It may be worth putting in brackets how much you pay and your details i.e. £x a year, age, points, fully or thrid party). If they read that and think, actually that's not too bad, it may keep them interested.

Also what's an 89 spec bumper add on?

Possibly, I pay less than £300 a year with Lynbrook but thats coz I'm old, female, full NCB and its a classic policy so limited mileage.

Re the bumber - dunno!! Vodkashots did the initial ad, and he put that bit in (he knows his stuff tho)
