volkswagen did the bora in a v5 . i think they are either a 2.4 or 2.6 . pretty rapid car . basically a golf with a boot .

a friend of mine used to have one, nice cars with lots of space but he sold it as apparantly it was too thirsty i think.

i think its a german thing proper v5 do come with equally paired cylinders i dont think v5s are a proper v the angle is only ever so slight more like a slightly ofset 5cyl. the old audi s2 used to have a turbo charged one i believe. apprantly great engines but rather juicy

Never had the Bora, but have had Golf's.....very reliable & well built, cracking cars

Very nice cars. Good build quality too.

The Turbo is usually a little fragile in them but easy to get to and replace.

so the general consensus is they're decent then?

Hmmmm

It is indeed a very narrow V to make the block more compact - even only has 1 cyl head (same as the VR6 engines).

The older Audi's used an inline 5 cylinder engine, not the VR5 lump

i had a mk2 golf with a modded VR6 engine, it was rapid and should never have sold it, miss it all the time, im hoping the M3 gives me the same feeling as the golf did

I have a VW Bora V5 for sale actually, I bought it in a police auction about 5 years ago. Its ultra-reliable and quick having been used as a police inspectors car in the past.

That's what I was going to say!!

Although I believe they are 2.3 litres - could be wrong though.....

.....they should prove solid and reliable - just like the Golf - and it looks like they're a bit of a bargain at the mo!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

They are 2.3 litres, the one I have is the 170 version but being an ex police car it has had its brain upgraded.

I've stuck side by side with a Leon Cupra R in that thing and the guy was absolutely fuming
