Oh my been waiting to get my air compressor so I could get my back wheels off as wont budge on a breaker bar.

Was expecting my first job with a compressor to make light work of this.

Ummm, nope. So I bought this and this

Ive tried tons of penetrating fluid and even heating the bolts up, no joy. HELP!!!

this is the problem when people do wheels up with an airgun. i take it that is what happened? instead of someone doing them up to the correct torque with a torque wrench?

Best thing id suggest, is get a long bit of steel tubing and put it on the end of your breaker bar. You need more leverage.

yeah, more leverage, if they shear, then new studs, not the end of the world, obv you'd rather not tho... You have done already, but loads of oil/penetrating fluid, and if they move a tiny bit (but they'll probably just go 'crack' and come loose) then keep working them back and forwards, should the thread be shitty.... lift the bar as apposed to pushing it down too, i damaged my wrist pushing a breaker bar down as i had no space to pull it....

When putting them back on ,put a little bit of Copper grease on the wheel nut and the rear of the wheel .

wheel studs are easy to change and don't cost that much from Nissan, I've had to change one and its not that bad a job. so get cracking (no pun intended lol)

heat it up properly and then melt a candle on the bolt so the wax gets in the threads....bash it with a hammer and then try and open....rinse and repeat..

should work.

Wow what a relief, yes just needed a longer rod :w00t:

Soon as one went helped the rest follow.

Just what my Mrs said lol

Not a good idea putting copper grease on studs/nuts IMHO.

Not on the threads on the chamfer of the nut

i just bought a snap-on air gun. its awsome and can undo everything. lol

Which one you buy? I bought 1/2" gun and ratchet for £80. But as a newbie dont know much about this. Would maybe invest in something better as long as my compressor is upto it.

its also a 1/2" but cost me nearly £300. been a mechanic i wanted somthing with a punch and this thing is really powerfull:)

Dont be a tease whats the model no.

I take your Snap On and raise you my Ingersoll Rand ....850ft pounds of torque....

well my breaker bar has over 100ton per square mm of pressure being applied when i get my grubby little mitts on it. nothing is refusing the budge.......or snap

Given the nuts had been so over tightened I would advise changing the studs now as the threads will have been streched, see enough broken studs especially rears to now this is a real problem...seriously change them.

Exactly what i was going to say,

I was a truck tyre changer for ATS for a couple of years. It was our policy to change the Studs if the nut was incredibly hard to pull off as they were more than likley streched.

Its also a big no no to put grease on the threads!! You dont want the damn things to come off do you.

wouldn´t a decent impact screwdriver do the job ?

impact screwdriver? thats for small screws? not wheel nuts. Impact wrench or gun is what the other guys were talking about. The impact screwdriver is very good for getting those pesky philips screws out from the discs. (location screw i think its called?)

80lbs on the wheel nuts is about right . without a torque wrench you would give them another half a turn as it dont feel that tight . as with all nuts and bolts on cars i think we are all guilty of overtightening . a decent torque wrench is a must

You should always lightly oil the threads though!, otherwise friction between the threads could result in a reduced clamping force being applied.

Exactly, couldnt put it better myself. If the nut cant turn freely on its stud when torqued the reading will be inaccurate and could result in a loose wheel.
