My Dyno time and thanks to John Dixon

Just wanted to say a big thank you to John Dixon, whos been helping me with the next part of finishing my car off, the engine management and tuning.

Went round to Johns a few weekends ago, for a trial fitment and prep the car ready for tuning, John spent a good day working on the car.

The other Monday, set off early, picked up John near Coventry and drove over to Emerald. Unfortunately time wasnt on our side so didnt get the car mapped that day. Left Emerald in an old battered Rover leaving the car behind.

Headed to Emerald today to pick up the car and then drove back to Johns to finish off the install and tidy things up.

Car drives superb, think im starting to like the car again after all this time and money spent on it, was considering selling up, but will see now.

I have attached the Dyno sheet from Emerald, I think the BHP are a little higher than what they actually are, although the torque figures are correct. The turbos started becoming inefficient around 18psi. Not sure if theres a spark problem, or could just be the fact I couldnt get the Mike Smith manifolds when I was having the engine built, so still running stock. Even so the car is extremely quick and drives really well now.

Johns going to spend a little more time on the car at his mates Dyno to see if we can get a little more boost out of it. No point in asking me technical questions, as Ive no idea lol.

But wanted to say thanks to John for his time doing this, especially the other Monday as it was a long day. Also thanks to the guys at Emerald, really helpfull and friendly guys.

Heres the chart, by the way it has 3 maps setup, all switchable by a switch.

Will be able to confirm BHP figures on the next Dyno.

Very nice figures mate. Im trying to get mine done at johns. will be a long day for me

Ye I have a John Dixon chip in my z and very happy with the performance..:)

Yeah, pretty sure there's more in this. There were 2 problems on the dyno, firstly the spark was blowing out above 18psi even with the coils fully saturated, hopefully new set of plugs gapped down should help with that. Secondly, intake temps started to go through the roof and boost fall off at high revs - thinking this may be manifold related as the bigger cams should pick it up if anything. We'll have a play with the new plugs and see what happens, looking at the torque figure of ~500ft-ibs mid range you can see there should be more peak power there typically but maybe the stock manifolds are that bad. None the less, good set of results for 18psi. The figures on there need about 30bhp subtracted due to the way their rolling road operates, it used to be a 300bhp model and is now upgraded to 600 but the software doubles everything including the run down losses.

Will be interestign when we run it up on Dale's dyno so we have a true comparison with the other cars that I've done on there.

All being said though, conversion is good, idles better than stock system, is running 2 apexi filters on 90deg bends for minimal restriction and has all teh bells and whistles that we still have to set up (traction control, full throttle shift etc.)

Cheers to Baz for being the TT guinea pig too  hope you do start enjoying it again mate, its a lovely car.

looks good, assuming you're keeping the VTC with the Emerald?

Looks like he did,Madmax kept his also but opted for the BDE high torque vtc hubs to keep the driveability.Im really looking forward to getting that car on the rollers, having seen inside the engine and the quality of the ferrera valves and extensive portwork it should make some big numbers,650rwhp should be a pushover.
