Just bought a 91' N/A Fairlady and the central locking does not work. The drivers side lock just feels broken and you cannot lock it from the outer door as the key just spins???

Will I need to replace the whole mechanism? The passenger side still locks though....

Thanks for the advice, will have a look tommorow...

The spinning key is caused by the small plastic cam lock on the end of the key barrel, this parts triggers the mechanical door lock mechanism for drivers side and also the electrical connection for the passenger side, the drivers side is totally mechanical so cannot be locked from the pasenger side.

The plastic cam lock comes as part of the door barrel, expect to pay around £60 for this from Nissan, alternatively add a central locking alarm with door solenoid.

Thanks for the info, does anyone know if the s14a door handle clip mechanism fits??

  • 2 months later...

Put a post up in the wanted section, plenty of breakers about or MJP in the traders section for a new one.

I have a few of these I have spare second hand after doing my lock, I could send you one.

It's a right !!!!! to get all this back in, so expect to get a bit peed off and angry lol... especially with the light going fast at the moment!!

I found I have to keep a torch constantly on inside the door to see what I was doing, just don't pull on anything, get the handle in after putting the plastic bit on and circlip, put your 10mm hex nuts back on THEN put the two connecting rods on... I also found I had to do the handle rod first, then lock rod after due to the space restriction........ expect the usual cuts 'n' stuff lol

Take your pick........... these are spare, I think the plastic clip off the passenger/drivers side are actually the same (someone correct me if I'm wrong!!).

exellent news! its the drivers side im after (yes they are different).

after spending 4 hrs trying to fit a "simple to fit" keyless entry system i decided it be easier to fix the lock. ive had the whole panel off all day, and yes i got my arm stuck in the door when i dropped a nut, yes i cut my finger, and yes there was a whole load of "wot did i do with that bit" going on.

all i need is the yellow clip, so if u pm me how much u want for it and a paypal address i'll send my address for posting

thanx

OK bud, I will send you one, you just pay postage which will probably be about £5 max recorded?

I doubt you will get that good of deal anywhere else.

"Pay it forward" bud is all I ask after that lol.

We all help each other on here. Good bunch of guys.

You send me your addy and I will get it posted tomorrow.

=0)

got the part today (thanks) managed to fit it and it locks/unlocks door but now the central locking dosent work with the key, centrally locks if u push lock button from in car tho. will have a better look tomorrow when i dont have to work with a torch in the dark

oh dear, there should be two bars in the car door, you have to snap one on the handle and one going to the lock actuator... also get the plastic clip thing over it where they snap in to hold it there???

I had an alarm actuator that was messing my system up and got rid of it...

also my bar going to the lock actuator was bent by about 2mm, bent it back with the adjustable spanners and it deactivated my handle on lock (that was my problem... it never stopped the handle form deactivating on lock after that)....

Hope you understood that? lol
