HI FOLKS

FIRST EVER POST!

i am stumped, 1989 import tt manual, hot or cold car starts and runs perfectly, when you pull off ,will not rev in gear more than 2000 revs ,if you dip clutch will rev cleanly through to 7500 revs, engauge gear will not rev ,you can drive slowly provided you change up the box before you hit 2000.

had series 2 ptu 4 years ago may 4000 miles use

new air flow meter

engine rebuilt 1500 miles still running in max 5000 whilst driving

new coolant sensor 3000 miles

this fault has been on car to some degree for last 10 years but very random ,used to clear when it happened ,if you sat with engine running for a few minutes and would not occur for months ,now perminant

as i said i am stumped any ideas folks ?

You will have to reset the ECU to get it out of safety mode, do this by disconnecting the battery for 1 hour and then reconnecting.

But before you do that, under the passenger foot well carpet (up against the foot rest) remove the 4 bolts holding the piece of wood over the ECU, on the side of the ECU is a little screw you will need a flat head screw driver. turn the screw fully clockwise, then wait 2 seconds, then turn it fully counter clock wise, then sit and watch your engine light on the dash, you will get long flashes, (first number) then short flashes for the second number, take a note, even if there are more than one code. reset the ECU, take it for a drive, then check the ECU again too see if the codes flash up again, if it does 5 long flashes followed by 5 short flashes, its all clear. if not post up the codes.
