typical council wanted us to pull this ceiling down and floor up as the ceiling needs to be fireboarded and the floor could be hazardous if wet

Exactly mate!!

Whilst it may not be to everyone's taste, such original period features are a rare find nowadays and will only serve to enhance an old property!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

by the way, its not my house, its my bosses house that is now converted into flats and bedsits

Not to my taste by any means but can appreciate the 'of its period' charm and craftmanship. Any tiled/timber floor is slippery when wet surely?! And the cieling could be fire checked from above, between the joists if the floor was lifted.

Fair play to you for sticking to your guns. Work you did on the front looks good too :thumbup1:

that could be a seriousely nice house, but it would require a lot of work to fetch it upto date, its like it is stuck in the 60's lol

the wallpaper on the bottom is that moulded putty stuff, will try and get some pics of it

now thats a different ball game altogether .

What he said.

It now needs to comply with all sorts of regulations.

I can understand the fibreboard ceilings (fire hazard), but the floor

tiles look ok, no more slippy than vinyl tiles when wet?

Can you not underdraw the ceiling with a suspended ceiling and leave the

original intact above it?

Perhaps fit a non slip vinyl sheet on the floor, over the tiles.

I'll bet that place is full of asbestos too.

also the house in the pics is the only double fronted of the street and is built in different bricks to the rest of the street?

there were a lot of houses bombed round there during the war

would love to find out more about the house

i know all the ins and outs of himo houses, the ceiling was tested and agreed that it is more than half hour fire proof, also the floor tiles are not slippy when wet, just some little hitler trying to find something wrong, it is fitted with hour fire door's, boarded ceilings in the rooms and a wired fire alarm system, all electrics have been checked and passed and as far as im aware there isnt any asbesto's anywhere

they tried to get us to do the ceiling a couple of years ago, we fought it and won, now the rules have changed and you dont have to board the ceilngs below communal area's, the upstairs kitchen is directly above so it would have been a shame to have agreed to pull it down only for the rules to change as they did

I love old houses, totally renovated a Victorian terrace with my ex husband in Bristol - took ages and every weekend and holiday! Then we sold it and bought a brand new one lol

Yeah I know, I wish I had the money and time to do it as it would be awesome, although the land with it isnt amazing to be honest.

It had the original 30's fire place and bathroom tiles.

It still had the "old" style plugs, with the round pin and bakerlight fittings, amazing stuff.

crikey mate, yeah thats some ceiling! thanks for dedicating the thread to me! lol :thumbup1:
