Got this buzzing noise on all the time when driving or idle or whatever. I *think* its the fuel pump but cant be sure. It does it for a second or 2 when u switch the ignition on b4 starting then stays on all the time and goes off about 2 seconds after u switch the engine off. It normal? What do you reckon it is?

You're right about the fuel pump "buzzing" right before you start the engine but it does stop. When switching the ignition on, without starting the engine, does the fuelpump buzzing stop? If it doesn't then there could be a problem with the fuel system. Perhaps it is a fan? confused.gif It's difficult to tell what it might be without listening to it ... meet up perhaps?

Sorry I can't be of more help to you.

yeah i switch the key to the 'on' position it buzzes for a second or 2 then stops till u start the engine again. where u live btw?

Pull the fuel pump fuse out. Then you'll soon know whether it's that.

good idea! spose it wouldnt like it if u cut the fuel pump when its running though

I live in N.E. Brum - Erdington - about 2 mins away from Spaghetti Junction (J6 on M6)

Is it coming from the courtesy light? There is a little fan in there that runs all the time and they can get noisy sometimes.

Yeh my thoughts exactly bilky.check the small fan in the roof between the tops. If noisy spray liberally with wd40.

That fan in the courtesy light, whats it for? It does seem pwerful enough to do anything except cause agro.

It is used by the climate control and has a temp sensor in it and it blows cabin air over it all the time - so dont disconnect it! Mine started making a noise just after I bought it and a mechaninic didnt know what it was didnt think it was important and said he could just disconnect it - I told him where to go!

Can ne1 shed light on the role of this fan near the courtesy light, it would appear not to have enuf power to do anything other than annoy.

The fan near courtesy light draws cabin air over temp sensor for the climate control. This can give a v annoying buzz in the cabin...and you think of a million things before this fan is spotted..!!

well that fan could be noisey but this sound you can hear loud and clear outside the car, it seems to come from the back end underneath somewhere.

Sounds like the fuel pump then. I seem to remember its located inside the fuel tank itelf. It can be heard but shouldnt be loud.

The buzzing sound you first hear will be the ABS self test system. Bzzzz!

Seem to remember seeing the fuel pump under a panel under the spare wheel. Pull all that junk out, start it up and then you should be able to see/feel whether it is definitely that.
