just checking a few things out on a sunny sunday as you do and jacked the rear of the car up and was shocked to feel how much left and right play i could feel when holding the wheels, jesus the most ive ever felt in any car.

 

I pretty much felt and even looked like the steering rack as i could see the track rod end moving but felt like it wasnt just those? i am replacing the rear rack with the driftworks kit shortly but just wondered if this is normal?

Sounds like the HICAS ball joints have gone. Not a problem if your putting on the driftworks kit as this will replace the arms.
