Right we're suffering the old problem of the onnet catch squeaking like a bird on drugs (thats a flying bird dont let ur imagination run away with ya wink.gif). Anyway Az told me I should grease up the catch and the U bolt. So what should I do it with? Tell me a specific product to use.

Featured Replies

i have just developed the exact same problem

and i am stumped.

Right - ye old "Bonnet Cricket" has returned! wink.gif

Az is spot on with the cure. Go to Harry's tomorrow and buy yourself some grease. I got some white grease in a spray container. Works a charm but you need to repeat the procedure every 4-6 weeks I've noticed.

Good luck!

Danny

PS - Clarkey, you're not too far away from me ... fancy a meet? Otherwise, there's a meet organized for 22 December in Solihull (see post in Upcoming Events). Perhaps we'll see you there mate!

i doubt we will be going to the NEC meet, even thought its only a few mins away. Me dad doesnt like pubs (dont ask why he just hates crowds) especially with a bunch of ppl he doesnt know.

Another way to stop the squeak is to wind up the rubber bonnet stops a little. Just enough so that the bonnet pushes against them more tightly when closed.

right i forgot what i was actually posting about just, it was WD40, u reckon WD40 would be worth a go cos its always cured all the squeaking hinges etc.. ive ever had..

What the problem with my squeek is, the D shape thing on the bonnet, was painted when the car was made. Years of opening and closing it has caused the paint to wear away, thus making it slightly thinner where the latch holds onto it making it squeek. I wrapped electrical tape around the D on the bonnet, only wrap it round twice any more and it wont shut. This stops it squeeking for a while.

After opening and closing the bonnet a few times the tape it mostly destroyed but its still stops it from squeeking.

Try it, you might like it. biggrin.gif

ok, sounds good whuch bit of the D, the bottom part or all of it if so how do you get on with corners, ill have to have a look at that also.

So far i have grease, bonnet stops, WD40, and tape. Ill try em all biggrin.gif

On the U bit is what I meant. The U bit that the bonnet latch holds onto. Put 2 layers of electrical tape onto it. Through the middle where the latch holds onto.

right I just did it. Dont know if its cured anything as of yet. Half of the U catch was worn away! I had a look at those bonnet stops and they werent even attatched properly so i left em alone.

I WD40'd the drivers door lock cos it was as stiff as **** now its smooth as silk

Also what i noticed was that the bonnet almost overlaps the headlamp panel on the left hand side (from front view) and when you press the bonnet down this rubs but it makes a graunching sound not a chirping sound.

Squeaking can also be caused when the panel between the lights is rubbing against the bonnet. This is often caused when you remove it for access to the air filter. If It's rubbing then loosen the 2 bolts and push it forward until it no longer rubs. This stopped the squeaking on mine.
