Ok here´s the story; since I bought my Z about 3 years ago, I barely driven the car on a long trip; except for when I drove it back from Italy to Spain when I first bought it. Since then the car has always been sitting on the garage and it can sit there for months without being drove. Many experts have adviced me that doing this to a car is not healthy, specially for these type of high performance cars...the turbos need life and some action; now couple weeks agi I got invited to a friends wedding who lives in Paris; so here comes my doubts; is it goo idea to drive the Z from Barcelona to Paris? see I always think that by not driven it much or getting the Z on the highway I will preserve the Z more from getting old and having problems; but it seems from what people tell me that I am doing the opposite; please I need some of your wise experts suggestions and advice; should I drive the Z to Paris and get it on the highway? or should I keep it sitting in the garage??:sad: Thank you

My personal view is that no car improves or stays good for sitting undriven for long periods of time - things seize and break and perish due to lack of use. I think if you have a car then you should drive it (although I am taking mine off the road over the winter because the weather is just too bad in the North East of England for a rear wheel drive car in my opinion!)

These cars are old, so they require much more maintenence and care than a brand new car, but many members on here do use their Zed as their daily driver and I think thats a good thing. If I could afford the fuel and didn't have to park somewhere where my paintwork would get damaged I would use my Zed every day!

Drive the car - its not a museum piece!!!

Hello mate, I agree with Jane's comments about leaving them for long periods of time - it does dry out seals and leave components in the engine/suspension/brakes to degrade in the air so they do need a little use now and again to keep everything in good health.

BUT they are Japanese cars, they're incredibly well put together and engineered so my only advice would be to get the car out of storage and take it for a drive each day for a week before you go for a long distance trip. This should give it enough time to bed the engine and brakes back in again, allow you to fix any problems that have occurred since you last drove it and hopefully by the timeyou drive it all the way to paris you should find the car is back to the way it should be.

I've left a Toyota Supra in a wet field for 12 months under a cover without starting it once and the first time i started it again after charging the battery it drove perfectly without any problems.

Storing your car is not the problem, is the preparation that goes into storing it thats the key. just leaving it with the hand brake on, fuel half full, old oil and the battery connected sitting in the same spot for a long time on the tyres is going to help things go wrong.

Good preparation is key to preventing things going wrong. clint put a post up a week ago asking how to go about storing her car for a long period of time, so might be worth having a read over that. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=1428006#post1428006

As your car has been sat doing nothing, first thing i would do is give it a oil and filter change. get some new petrol from the pumps (in a jerry can) and fill her up. charge the batter and get the tyres checked for flat spots. id also test the breaks make sure the hand brake if left on, hasnt binded to the rears.

Good advice in my opinion, break her in gently, allowing you some time to fix any niggling things like fluid levels, cleaning connectors etc.

But that sounds like a lush roadtrip - Barcelona to Paris.... nice little Eurotrip. :euro:

You mean to not drive up to Paris?

I think it all depends on the car mate. Best thing you can do is just take it out for a drive and see how it feels. I drive my Zed everyday but rarelt drive my Trans Am and touch wood, every time i've drove it it's been fine :)

Ps. I'll also accept the offer to swap you a place here in the North east of England for a pad in Spain :)
