My auxillary heating smells of curry. I like curry. Don't really want the car to stink of it tho. Sorry, that doesn't answer your question. I'm guessing if it smells of petrol, you have a fuel leak. But I have breasts so not qualified to comment :whistling:

can you smell it in the engine bay as well? may be a brittle pipe around the fuel filter area - easily replaceable with a braided one.

Curry smell is heater matrix, it smells like that if its going to fail / has failed.

@rses, thats not good - it still gets hot and works at the moment so guessing its on its way out. Bugger!

Might have already been fixed with radweld (nasty stuff) or could be a lose pipe giving off the wiff, but usually the smell is because of leaking rad fluid, take your rad cap off and i bet it smells the same, and looks like rusty water.

Cheers Ian, just about to start tinkering with the cars so I'll do that :winkiss:

If it is your heater matrix, it's better to get it changed as soon as possible. I was on a long journey home on a Friday night when mine let go. Got showered in coolant and steam, had to lower the drivers window and stick my head out of it to find a safe place to park up.

ZedWorld replaced mine and put new water pipes through the bulkhead, top job.

cheers for the replys- haha curry smell doesnt sound to good either- for someone who doesnt have a clue about the engine bay area- can somneone point me as to which hoses and pipes i need to check??

Sounds like you definatly have a engine bay fuel leak. The fuel hoses run from the filter on the Right hand side (passenger side) of the engine bay, and over to the plenum. Where they enter the fuel rail then return back next to the fuel filter location.

Remove the engine cover in the centre of the plenum to give better access.

They are a mix of rubber hose and metal pipe with plenty of hose clamps. Go through and tighted all of the hose clamps up.

There is a another small piece of fuell pipe at the front of the engien plenum, underneath the accelerator cable linkage.

But I have breasts so not qualified to comment :whistling:

So do a lot of Male Z owners

All the fuel pipes. Check the clips and condition around the clip. The main culprits are at the plenum, there is a little pipe that goes from the fuel damper to the injector feed, the fuel tends to drip onto the rocker cover just under the damper, but tends to stop once the engine is warm, which is why you end up smelling the fuel when cold.

you also have a connecting fuel pipe at the front of the engine, under the throttle cover that links the injector feed hard pipe, again 2 jubilee clips to check, although harder to get too.

Old pipes become brittle over time, so worth checking the condition over the length of the pipe.

Dont go taking a pipe off though, its under pressure, there is a procedure to do this should you need to take it that far.

Graham

yep, i can comfirm, i have breasts

I agree, mark does indeed have moobs, :tt2:

You will most likely be better off with the bonnet open, and have a smell when the engine just starts up from cold, i pin pointed Artztogos this way, and a new pipe and a few clips later problem was solved.

What you have to be careful off is if you go and tighten the clip too much on a rubber tube you will end up cutting into it causing the leak to be worse. this was the cause of Artztogos fuel leak in the first place. a over tightened clip had severed the pipe.

on a general note i just got home from work and did have my foot down a tad on the way - after letting the turbos cool and switching her off i could her a hiss every couple of secs like something was dripping and landing on something hot - so it looks like i deffo have got a fuel leak under there somewhere so ill check it out today and hopefully look forward to seeing a nice +1 mpg when ive sorted it
