disc warping?

Featured Replies

Dont buy inferior discs, dont drive car like you stole it for prolonged periods, and if the discs are hot avoid large puddles as the rapid cooling can warp them.

i like spirted driving as much as the nxt man but only if the conditions are right and theyre no traffic.felt a bit of brake judder on the way back from mot.sso i orderd a set of black diamond drilld and grooved disks..iv read the myths of drilled disks cracking.but like you said this doesnt happn if you dont drive like an idiot for prolonged periods.

i was asking because iv read that the zed is prone to disk warpping

The term "Disk warp" is often wrongly used as in most cases the effects ie.shaking steering brake pulsing etc is due to pad imprint.

This is where pad material adheres to the disc face in uneven levels causing highs and lows that can be felt on the brake pedal.

Mostly this is caused by excessive pad material temp been forced beyond its max working temp, this itself can be caused by poor quality pads, wrong applications or seized calipers.

Good caliper and brake system maintenance is the key, ensure calipers are free and the use of branded pads as well avoiding sitting at junctions or in traffic for long time with your foot on the brake pedal.

the pads were changed a week ago and have only seen the trip to the test center and back, i refurbs the callipers about a fortnight ago...on the brake test they came up extremely well...its just the disks..i was going to change the disks soon anyway so nows a better time than any

Might also be worn front tension rod bushes. If you still have the original OEM rubber bushes, when worn they tend to leak and cause brake judder, as ive just found with mine.

Thought i was leaking power steering fluid, but its the bush.

ill give it a check tomorrow..but iv looks about under the car and there's absolutly no leaks.

is yours is an auto ? auto,s are more prone to disc warpage due to owners sitting with their foot on the brake to stop the car creeping instead of using the park slot in the box thus keeping hot pads in one area of the disc .

also, if the wheels are not torqued on properly (so i believe) that can cause warpage if they are tighten a lot too much....
