rattling from under car on manual box

Hi, I'm getting a rattling/grinding from under the car when in any gear & revs between 1100 & 1500. I think it's the gearbox!!! Has anyone come across this before?? If so, is it serious. I got the gearbox from a1 Jap spares & has taken me over a month to fit & now I think it's knackered!!! Also, the thrust bearing is knackered! I'm getting p****d off with the whole thing!!

Sorry I cant really help, it is most prob just a bearing that is wearing out. I really doubt that the prop shaft is about to break on you.

Shaun (I'm guessing thats yer name smile.gif) - where exactly is the rattling? Easiest to answer if you are under the car, admittedly..

I doubt it's the prop if it's a rattle, most likely is the heat shields on the turbo's or CAT's.. Quite common for these to rattle (the mounts often rust due to the damp/heat/damp/heat cycles)

I rekon that it's something more sinister! It seems to be coming from the gearbox! I just hope that the output shaft bearing isn't shafted! I've checked the prop & it's fine but there seems to be quite a lot of play in the diff though. It's a difficult problem to diagnose because it only does it when you're moving!
