Has anyone ever sucessfully dyed their original fairlady mats? I've got the early original dirty grey coloured ones and whilst I like the feel and quality of them I dont really like the colour and I was wondering if it would be possible to dye them to a darker colour like the later version in this eBay Link.

Featured Replies

dont know about dying them, but could be done.

I have a complete set, were really dirty at first, then hit them with a pressure washer and carpet cleaner, took a few goes, look like new.

Dont hang on washing line unless its well secured, ripped mine of the wall.

I could be wrong, but are all the shagpile carpets not the same colour? obviously there will be varying shades after being in the sun or wear and tear, just a thought, if anyone knows lol

The pile could be dyed, but i would of thought there would be a fair bit of scotchguard type protection on them. Give it a go and be one of the first

Well mine aren't the same colour as the ones I linked to in that ebay link - mine are a dark grey around the outside and a lighter grey in the middle - or the other way round lol can't remember. I'll perhaps try putting them in the washing machine to clean them up first then see if I still want them the navy blue colour.

That could be just the brightness in the pics, i would take them to a launderette, bigger machines and less chance of buggering the wifes up lol

Can't see why you couldn't dye them, I did the whole carpet in my other car and came out really well.
