Bummer dude, not sure if it's the wet or.... tried cleaning the maf and it started first go, then went back to it's normal thing...

It starts first time after a day or so leaving it, then after about 5 mins of normal throttle and driving, it starts losing power.

Example:

When you put your foot on the pedal it near enough dies, so you let it off quick before it stalls at a roundbout or something and you get whacked lol.

Anyway.... if you feather the throttle really really light it will very slowly accelerate, once it's got above about 1000 rpm you can treat it as you want, but as soon as you're back on the 800rpm mark and sitting again, you darn't hit that pedal or that's your lot!....

Any ideas?

This is annoying and can't seem to narrow it down, not sure if it's the wet or not because it's still wet! lol

Thanks, Ant

So 12 & 13 is your MAF and engine temp sensor (probably just a dodgy connection on the sender).

Try cleaning the connections on both the temp sender and MAF, could easily just be that!! It's a good idea to clean all the connections once in a while.

so just to clear up... one short led light and two quick ones does mean 12?

and smae but for thirteen but with one long flash and three short flashes?

I don't want to be looking or fixing something that may not be the right code lol

Just bought Baz's MAF for £65, will see what happens... also asked for everything to be serviced including ancillary and cam belts... £350... worth it though, rather the heart be beating than palpertations lol

...........the one more edit =)

What's all the smoke near the dipstick? oil burning or a blow?

Hard to diagnose over all the background but can I hear a hissing sound on the idle vid?:detective:

  • Author

hmmmmm, the smoke is coming beneath the dipstick, you can see it in the 300zx poorly vid, so tight though can't see where it's coming from.

Poke your head under where the Auto dipstick is and see if there is any oil on the cat/exhaust, just to rule out the smoke.

What does that mean?

Sorry you're talking to a computer geek lol

Likewise... ;) Only ever worked in IT!

That dipstick on the left of the engine towards the back is for the automatic gearbox oil. The engine oil dipstick is on the right towards the middle ish.

That smoke/burning probably isnt a good sign!

However it doesnt seem to hunt at idle from the videos too much. The issue almost certainly electrical! Any chance you can take it to a specialist zed garage?

mantav8 - I will try, but floor pans I can't see past underneath, may need a jack, torch, some screwdrivers to get them off and look.

quavey - hmmmm, yeah it is weird, currently looking at the engine on the service manual to give me an idea where it's coming from.

And yes, someone gave me Darren's number in Strood last night, going to give him a bell tomorrow.

I live in Sittingbourne/Kent anyway... I f***ing love this car and still not got to drive it or show me mates yet, they're as sick as pigs and they will be even sicker when they see the thing moving heheh.

I always say: "it's one thing when birds are loving the car... but when you see blokes creaming over it... you know it's good!!" lol

Yeah I did wonder if you were near D2. THey come highly recommended so I would take it there for a checkover should soon confirm what if anything is up with it.

are you getting any oil spots or water where the car is parked i wouldnt keep running it until you find and sort that leak could be a water pipe to the turbo that is leaking on to the exhaust or oil finding its way down and out of somewhere best to sort that before any other running issues mate

  • Author

true, true and thanks dragonback =) will have to look for the spots, but as I say, all floor pans are under the car still... so??

Going to investigate further tomorrow I think.... Time for the jack!!

I can see some wet oil behind there, but it looks above from where the smoke is coming from..... did you see the vids I posted above?

Thanks for all the help though, really appreciate it =)

Hmmm, just noticed on the MOT it says: Advisory... Oil leak. DERRR!

So may not be the cause of my problem? will wait for the mass air flow meter I think from Baz and keep you posted =)

  • Author

WOOOOOOOOOOOO! I got it running!

I think it was combination of the MAF (kinfdly replaced by Baz) and the crappy corroded water temp monitor plug connections...

Now it doesn't even blink on throttle down...

The smoke was a oil leak on the MOT advisory, looks like I wont be going to D2 today... well, maybe soon to see about a new sensor.

I ckeaned the male contact on the temp sensor with wet and dry, was really hard to do, but managed it!, seems to be cooling ok now as well.

Addition

good to hear running issues sorted would get that leak soted though you dont want it to go up in flames now do, you use a bright light/torch even a flood light to look down the engine even use the wife's make up mirror to reflect the light to see better

all the best

awesome news mate, pleasure to help :thumbup1:

now my car wont move as it has no MAF, but don't feel guilty ;) :tt2:
