for anyone who is interested here are a few snaps of where im up to on my restoration/customisation. ive mainly focused on the engine bay as that is what im doing at the moment

engine bay was taken back to bare metal, this is just about the last of it

DSC_0070.jpg

pas pot has been moved to here

DSC_0071.jpg

to here, hicas has been removed, inner wing deseamed/smoothed. all holes have been welded up (except a few that i still need)

DSC_0072.jpg

same goes for this area too, there will be nothing here except the brake servo/clutch master cylinder

DSC_0073.jpg

Alot of work has gone on in this area, the battery tray has been removed which revealed a few holes where the battery had leaked, the upper suspension mounting had also had a bit of a bash at some time and had distorted the reinforced panel. i cut out the whole panel in this area and replaced it with one cut out of my breaker. all spot welds drilled out etc and welded back to look factory-also checked to correct chassis dims. you can see which panel i mean as its red (weld through etch primer)

DSC_0074.jpg

same goes for the passanger side, i have replaced the headlamp pod aswell, it had been repaired to a good standard but i was not happy, it would appear my breaker had a bad bump (bent the chassis rail) but they had replaced the headlamp pod with a new nissan item so this was grafted onto my car aswell. all looks perfect now. the fusebox will go under the nose panel on the inside of the chassis leg opposite the pas pot

DSC_0075.jpg

DSC_0076.jpg

both chassis rails have been given the smooth treatment too

DSC_0077.jpg

fuel filter has been moved down here where all the aiv stuff used to live, the stock fuel lines have been tweaked to pop up under the chassis rail where you can just see the little notch. the fuel lines will then go up through the panel above (where battery used to be). ill use a jic bulkhead fitting here so in the engine bay i will have aeroquip type braided hoses with propper connectors in stealth black onto an adapted fuel pipe.

DSC_0078.jpg

tomorrow i will spray the bay in a final coat of etch, then seam seal a few bits. might even get on to giving it a coat of 2k high build. Colour will be pure gloss black. im going for a very stripped out look in the bay, no wires showing and nothing but the engine to see. colour scheme will be stricktly black and silver/chrome/pollished aluminium.

hope you enjoy.

well ive not done much outside on the car recently for obvious reasons, but i have done a few bits. no pics sorry so ill just do a quick update and some more pics in the week

bought some of carmads new swb skirts. ive had a quick offer up but not really tried to fit them, sorry for the delay mate but ill get a few pics up

ive also done a few more bits of interior including a new centre console cover, handbrake and gear leaver gaiter.

just started my big brake conversion today as well, picked up a brand new set of brembo 4 pots on sunday and im going to be fitting some 345mm discs so should be sweet, ill make a prototype bracket tomorrow to see if they squeeze under my 17's but initial offering up looks positive, ive got access to a few set of these calipers so if anyone is interested i could be persuaded to make up a few sets if anyone is interested (as long as this is allowed by club rules)

the discs are only card cutouts at the moment but they look amazing filling the whole wheel out. i dont think i could fit any bigger inside my wheels though.

ive got next week off work so i hope to get some real progress. the plan is to have the car back on its wheels at the front and have the front end just about done so i can turn the car around and do some bodywork to the back and passenger side.

erm a bit, its been cold in my garage so ive not done too much. the discs for my big brake conversion should be here tomorrow so ill post up some pics, i should also get some bits back from chroming soon aswell. i think ive hit a bit of a wall finding it hard to work up the enthusiasm to do much though:thumbdown:

as promised here are a few more pics of my work

ive had real trouble getting out to the garage and being inspired to do anything but in the last week i have seem to have found some enthusiasm, im sure its the weather.

work still continues on the front suspension and engine bay, im hoping to have it down on the front wheels soon though.

im nearly there with the brakes now though, made up a trial adaptor to fit my brand new brembos and the largest disks i dared to squeeze under my 17's

lookes a bit like this

DSC_0257.jpg

not alot of clearance between the rim and caliper as you can see

DSC_0258.jpg

here is the new disks compared to the old stock items, they are 345mm

DSC_0259.jpg

just getting some plate plasma cut at work so i can make the real adapters with a few slight tweaks, i will just need to tap them and get them plated

while i was at it i also did a quick check of the stance, wheels are looking quite flush but i will make up hubcentric spacer to bring them out a further 20mm or so, the wheels are 9" et40 so 20 should bring them about bang on

DSC_0261.jpg

also cleaned up one of the side mounts, the only thing left to do here is the washer pump.

DSC_0262.jpg

here is a quick shot of the cross member, most bits done, just need to sort out the pas return pipe. the radiator looks a bit grim but my new japspeed one turned up today so ill post up some pics once i fit it tomorrow.

DSC_0263.jpg

finally a very blurry pic of the counter sunk strut top bolts, they are usually studs but i think thats going to look a bit crap so im adapting my tein pillow ball top mounts

DSC_0264.jpg

tomorrow ill trial fit the rad and take some pics of my newly reconditioned front hubs

and a few more random pics i may have missed, generally of carmads excellent new skirts

Keep up the good work, it is crap but i got a gas bottle powered fire which took the chill off and made working in my garage more liveable

looking good, thanks for the pics. i actully sanded the skirts back to the size you gave lol..

they are a little thicker on the ends when i pull them out of the mould so im happy with that :biggrin

Only just seen this thread!!

Great work buddy. I love the engine bay detail - less is more, less is more!

Should be an awesome car when it's finished.

well its been an age since ive updated this and to be honest ive done very little due to refurbing the house/work/bussiness and a little bit of lack of enthusiasm. however i have spent the last two evenings under the car starting to remove all the underseal, i wasnt looking forward to this as its real slow going and a horrid job but ive done most of the drivers side floor pan now. no pics but im sure you get the idea.

to my surprise ive found very little rust, most rust bits have been caused by scrapes or poor jacking

for an idea of the finish ill be going for have a look at this

i dont think you can beat the ford boys for the quality of restoration and attention to chassis detail.

never seen a 300 done to this quality, anyone else?

my aim is to try and amaze Jeff when its back on the road as i plan my first run to be a shake down run to zedworld.

now where did i put that elbow grease

work has continued on the underside of the car this week. again sorry but no pics but ill get some tonight.

the main news is that i have built a car spit so i can work on the underside while standing up instead of on my back, it bolts on to the bumper mounts.

once im done with it ill give it to the club so that more zeds can be saved

I'd love to borrow that. Great way to find loose change!!

I take it you need to remove the bumpers?

Andy

yep, the bumpers need to come off.

i would also advise the engine, rear subframe and most of the body panels for that matter. even with a stripped out car its a bit un nerving having all that weight suspended by two bars
