for anyone who is interested here are a few snaps of where im up to on my restoration/customisation. ive mainly focused on the engine bay as that is what im doing at the moment

engine bay was taken back to bare metal, this is just about the last of it

DSC_0070.jpg

pas pot has been moved to here

DSC_0071.jpg

to here, hicas has been removed, inner wing deseamed/smoothed. all holes have been welded up (except a few that i still need)

DSC_0072.jpg

same goes for this area too, there will be nothing here except the brake servo/clutch master cylinder

DSC_0073.jpg

Alot of work has gone on in this area, the battery tray has been removed which revealed a few holes where the battery had leaked, the upper suspension mounting had also had a bit of a bash at some time and had distorted the reinforced panel. i cut out the whole panel in this area and replaced it with one cut out of my breaker. all spot welds drilled out etc and welded back to look factory-also checked to correct chassis dims. you can see which panel i mean as its red (weld through etch primer)

DSC_0074.jpg

same goes for the passanger side, i have replaced the headlamp pod aswell, it had been repaired to a good standard but i was not happy, it would appear my breaker had a bad bump (bent the chassis rail) but they had replaced the headlamp pod with a new nissan item so this was grafted onto my car aswell. all looks perfect now. the fusebox will go under the nose panel on the inside of the chassis leg opposite the pas pot

DSC_0075.jpg

DSC_0076.jpg

both chassis rails have been given the smooth treatment too

DSC_0077.jpg

fuel filter has been moved down here where all the aiv stuff used to live, the stock fuel lines have been tweaked to pop up under the chassis rail where you can just see the little notch. the fuel lines will then go up through the panel above (where battery used to be). ill use a jic bulkhead fitting here so in the engine bay i will have aeroquip type braided hoses with propper connectors in stealth black onto an adapted fuel pipe.

DSC_0078.jpg

tomorrow i will spray the bay in a final coat of etch, then seam seal a few bits. might even get on to giving it a coat of 2k high build. Colour will be pure gloss black. im going for a very stripped out look in the bay, no wires showing and nothing but the engine to see. colour scheme will be stricktly black and silver/chrome/pollished aluminium.

hope you enjoy.

ill swap my shiny suspension for your v8 any day. still tempted to put one in mine.

thanks for the comments guys

Well with my latest adaptions i'm now running a totally stock z32 front cross member with spacers on and some custom brackets to go between the stock z32 mounts and the V8 and that's it :)

So even less of an excuse not to fit it now! :D Real Steel have a nice 350 block for sale for £400 at the moment..... :)

well sorry for the lack of an update

all ive been doing really is sorting out the wiring loom and cleaning up a load of brackets.

the wiring loom has taken quite a while as i dont want any wires in the bay. i have replaced all the conectors to the side lights etc as they were all hacked about, removed the hicas connections, moved the gearbox connections, hardwired in the hid connector, moved the fuse box down to the chassis rail under the nose pannel and relocated the pas pot connection. most of the wires are now bound up again and looks like new.

ive also repainted most of the intercooler pipes and had all the rubber mounting washers replated etc. going to replace the intercoolers at some point but std will do for now.

also bought loads more stainless bolts to get things mounted, i will not be using any mild steel unless they are structural. also got some fancy countersunk washers for the wings etc.

also rebilt the wiper mechanism with replated crank arms.

got no photos at the moment but ill update tomorrow.

also ordered a set of carmads new swb skirts so i hope to trial fit these over the weekend.

absolutely loving this thread....top notch work fella ...this has got the potential to be THE best restored zed in the uk if not europe .....keep those pics coming it gives us mere mortals hope and encouragment

once the engine bay and front suspension is done (not putting the engine in yet)

i will turn the car round and finish off the bodywork on the passanger side and finish off the underside of the car.

then paint the remaining panels, refit the interior, doors, tagas etc. last will be a rear subframe refurb then fit the engine(still a bit of work to be done here)
