I wanted to fill the holes that were butchered into my bumper and respray it

Ive seen cars with it but i always thought they were just waiting to get pulled over.

I dont see the problem as its still on show and can still be easily read.

Thanks

Mark

once, i took my plate off to replace with a new one. i didnt have the double sided sticky pad things, so popped it in the window, drove down the road, half a mile, b4 i got the the DIY store I got pulled. Not worth it, had to go and produce doc's, kinda a hassle, eventhough the cop checked for insurance/license etc

It just seems stupid, numberplate ruin the styling of a car completely, there should be no reason why you cant put it in the window. What about the stick on ones you see on mx5's are they legal?

Ive been driving mine round for a few weeks with it in the window, been to France and back, passed loads of police cars and nothing. JimmyTT has had his that way for a few yers now. I just think its luck of the draw to whether you get pulled, but as said it cant be seen by ANPR cos of the angle, im still showing it at the front of the car, so as far as im concerned i will argue the toss in court. Its not permament, it will go back under the bumper facia when ive finished the bodywork, but for now, its in the windscreen lol

Haha, thats wicked, where do you get your internet content joely :D

Screw the Internet content where do you get the number plate hider

Traffic police "excuse me sir wheres your number plate, you are supposed to be showing it at the front of your vehicle?"

You: "just there? didn't you see it?"

Traffic police "wtf? think i need to go to spec savers, pretty sure it wasn't there a moment ago..."

My excuse if i did get pulled would be, i have no mountings on the front of my car, i dont want to cut my bumper up to fit it, you still saw it, whats the problem, im fully legal tax, insurance, mot.

can i put a smaller one under the original place then, in the open mouth part.

Still ruins the style of the car though

i have a small motorbike size number plate on the front, its the same size width as the old mounting holes where the import plate was...

still slightly illegal in plate size, but the letters are the correct size and spacing

I wont win will I. Think ill go talk to my MOTer tomorrow, see if theres anything i can do.

That motorbike size sounds good, if its legal for one road vehicle it should be for another

Check out "display of registration marks" on line. Legislation.gov.uk

Just so you know, the wholes in your front bumper arent butchered.

There is supposed to be a couple of brackets that bolt to the inside of your bumper, then your number plate covers the holes.

Yeah it came with a big metal bracket, i thought it was something put on at the docks or something.

Why did nissan design such a nice car then do that.

I had the same on my temporary fit bumper. I just bought a 3/4 size number plate and stuck it over the holes. Job Complete!

good idea.

Ive just looked over the legislations, i cant see anywhere that says its an offence not to have it on the front, only that if it is not legible, altered or visible.

You know if the police pulled me and i said that they would do me for an attitude problem

The one in the window is illegal. I had one in my Trans Am for years and was never pulled though.

The font you can have on your plate must be UK size if the car was first registered in the UK. If it was first registered in Japan and then imported you can use smaller font.

Here is the DVLA Guidance:

The Road Vehicles ( Display of Registration Marks) (Amendment) regulations 2002 SI no. 2687 came into force in November 2002.

These amendment regulations introduce a new regulation 14A, making special provision in relation to the size and spacing of characters in the registration number of some imported vehicles. These regulations also include the display of motorcycle sizes number plates on imported vehicles. The provision only applies to vehicles imported into the UK which do not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval, and are so constructed, that the area available for the fixing of the registration plate precludes the display on the plate of a registration number in conformity with the requirements of regulation 14.

Also contained is an amendment to regulation 3, to prohibit the use of a number plate on which the background is patterned or textured, or gives that appearance.

Where a vehicle has been allocated a UK registration number, the number plate must comply with the specification and standards laid out in the Road Vehicles ( Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001, as amended. Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display numberplates with smaller characters if the vehicle does not have European Community Vehicle Type Approval and the vehicle's construction/design cannot accommodate standard size numberplates.

The dimensions for the smaller sized plate are:

• each character in the registration number must be 64mm high

the width of each character of the number, other than the letter 'I' and the figure '1' must be 44mm

• the width of every part of the stroke forming a character in a number must be 10mm

the spacing between any two characters within a group must be 10mm

• the vertical spacing between groups of characters must be 5mm

• the width of a margin between the number and the top and lateral sides of the numberplate must be not less than 5mm

• the space between the bottom of the number/character and the bottom of the plate must not be less than 13mm, but within that space, the space between the bottom of the number and the top of the name and postcode of the person the plate was supplied must not be less than 5mm.
